Hello aspirant,

Please go through the below points:

  1. If placement is your concern then circuital branches( CSE, EE, ECE,EEE) are ALWAYS BETTER than remaining branches.
  2. Electrical engineering is pretty though, it involves lot of Maths, Physics( won’t be that deep). Indeed there is very less Physics involved when compared to Maths. So it won’t be any easy to get along.
  3. Metallurgical Engineering is more closely related to pure sciences like Chemistry, material science, Physics( Heat, material properties, nano technology…..). Its an easy branch to get along. But, can turn out to be extremely painful if you lose interest in it as not everything is logical here, you need to put considerable amount of effort in remembering things.
  4. If you are aiming to do MBA( or move in a path different from Engineering after B.Tech ) or get a non-core job or you don’t like Mathematics or your want to have an excellent college life then Metallurgical Engineering at IIT Kgp is the best option for you.
  5. Whereas, if you are not sure about what you want to do after B.Tech, then it would be better to take EE at IIT Bbs.
  6. There is one more option available to you and that is :BRANCH CHANGE. But, trust me it is not easy. Before you get into IIT, your ranks in JEE A and M would depend on more on your PROBLEM SOLVING SKILL, whereas once you enter an IIT the emphasis shifts more towards theory. Here at IITs professors lay emphasis on theory and it becomes your task to work for improving your problem solving skill. In most of the exams problems would be like doable by anyone who as good grasp on theory. Because of this students with JEE ranks lesser than yours might perform well. I had seen many of my friends who were bad at problem solving getting better CGPAs than those who were excellent problem solvers. Also, there could be students who screwed up JEE, and ended up with a very low ranks. These students too perform well in IITs. And also it is very DIFFICULT to get adjusted to the academic environment at IITs. Here, most of the professors give boring lectures and most of the times you might not even have a clue of what the professor is explaining to you. You end up searching on the internet for those topics, rushing through 10s of books, watching online tutorials….This takes so much effort from your side than the effort you kept to learn things during your JEE days. Because of all these and many other reasons( see branch changing criteria in websites of ITs)your chances to get your branch changed will be very less and it would be a foolish act to choose some college hoping to get your branch changed.

I think I made myself clear. Consider all these things and more importantly talk with seniors from various IITs and choose wisely.

Thank you and please forgive me if there are any grammatical errors.
