The college is very nice, faculty are very friendly and supporting . hostels are excellent and very spaceous , breakfast is nice but lunch and dinner is ok but it's improving day by day , as they take feedback at the end of month, academics are the best , unlike of old iits , faculty are really friendly they always personally clear doubts and we can consult any problem with our faculty advisor. fest are organised in Feb and aal of them are grand, wisseinare,Alma fiesta, esummit are great. cycling culture is present in iit that is really fun. we just get out of hostels and start exploring the campus, and trust me it's vast 936 Acer campus really allows u to discover things.

The Research. It is not easy to summarize the research output at an institutional level, and I am by no means an expert in the relevant metrics. However, for a typical academic, just looking us up should give a fair sense of what's going on. We maintain a reasonably up-to-date repository of publications that our faculty and/or students are involved in, a list of sponsored research projects by discipline, and a list of our research/lab facilities, where an update is overdue (and hopefully coming soon). Notably, a research park is in the works, after the government approved a 90-cr grant to that end. Most of our faculty have their recent publications listed on their profile pages, so that's a good place to start as well. You are also welcome to schedule a visit if you want a more direct sense of the research environment and the kind of work that goes on. In terms of the general atmosphere, we usually do well in terms of routinely having visitors on the campus: on an average week, there's always an interesting talk/event, either of a general or specialized nature, to participate in. Several of these are featured on our Youtube channel: lectures from our GIAN courses will soon be made available (one of them is already up), and videos from several courses, conferences, workshops, and one-off talks are also available. Please note that we are only able to capture a small fraction of the total activity, so I leave it to you to extrapolate or check our facebook feed for a more comprehensive overview. The Education. I don't imagine that we have attempted revolutionizing education in a fundamental sense: for example, we still rely on the JEE for selecting our undergraduate students, we do give out grades like everyone else, our courses still run on the semester system - so I figure we are quite normal in many ways. Having said that, we do experiment, and are about as disruptive as it is possible to be while staying within - or just skirting :) - the norms that come with being a part of the IIT fraternity. Here's a third-party reflection on our foundation program and here is another. Our curriculum structure makes it possible for people to either graduate early or later than their default program duration - we have seen some interesting consequences of this kind of flexibility. We're home to a fair number of brave/fun startup attempts. The Explorer's Fellowship and the Gram Fellowship allows for students to get some glimpses of the real world. The Self-Learning Mode is an interesting sweet spot between mandating attendance and letting students disappear with no sense of accountability. In terms of the content and the structure of our curricula, particularly at the undergraduate level, I realize that some of our choices are considered contentious. In that context, let me point out that we are intensely aware of the issues surrounding these choices: rest assured that the problems enjoy many a colorful debate during faculty meetings and other forums. The Campus. The permanent campus is a joy to be in. Watch this video tour to get a sense of the aesthetics, or check out the campus website to see the features of the campus. Sustainability is at the heart of the campus design, not an afterthought, and that reflects in several details. For example, we were featured in a case study of the Swachh Bharat Mission. We have received several recognitions for the innovations in construction technology, the welfare of the construction workers, and the green features integrated into the campus. General Facilities. We have generally excellent guest houses and hostels, a meticulously maintained library, and plenty of options for sport and recreation. I expect the campus to be fairly self-sustained when the second phase of construction is complete. The office spaces are wonderful, even when they were operational as shared spaces. For the record, and contrary to some speculations on this forum - the offices assigned now are not shared spaces by default. Also, several of us share our offices with students or other colleagues anyway, because it happens to be more productive and fun that way. On the flip side, we could use more hangouts and coffee joints in the academic area! Outreach. This is a huge focus area at the institute - whether it is attention to detail when it comes to the safety of construction workers, or initiatives like NEEV and NYASA. One senses that there is a tangible impact from these efforts, which get more and more systematic and sustainable with every passing year, and it is very heartening to see that this is a passion shared by the entire fraternity. The NIRF Rankings. We weren't the only one who got shuffled around. The rankings have been ripped apart by several experts so I would encourage you to look a little closer than just the number in the outcome. You might say that we didn't point out these philosophical issues when we had the eighth position last year... indeed, while it is true that we were thrilled, the NIRF rankings were not our only bragging rights from that year :) On the other hand, despite the various issues with the rankings themselves, we are in the process of evaluating what happened, and the extent to which we have contributed to the variation. --- Overall: I will emphasize again that there is a general recognition of areas where there is room for improvement. On a meta-note, what I think is reassuring is that the culture here creates frequent opportunities for introspection - for example, the annual leadership and academic conclaves; regular meetings and discussions at the level of the general community, the faculty body, the students, and so on; all done with the intention of reminding ourselves of our overall vision, taking stock and figuring out where we need to course correct. IITGN may not be utopian (what place is?)... however, anyone looking to form their impressions of the institute should consider looking at the work that we do, the collaborations we have, the events we are able to host, the visiting faculty we are able to attract, the kind of students we graduate, and so on. If possible, have direct interactions with people from IITGN over email or in person: you will get a wide(r) spectrum of perceptions. Every story has at least two sides, and I don't believe they are all proportionately represented here.

One of the best among new IIT's

IIT Bhubaneswar remains the most popular choice next to old IIT's which can be easily seen by the JEE ranking of the students opting for it. Being the 3rd largest in area wise among all IIT's (including old one's), IIT Bhubaneswar provides a good piece of infrastructure whether it is school building or residential building or guest house, guest house being the awesome part. College provides single seated rooms right from the first year which enhances the personality development of student and also makes student to learn how to lead his/her life individually. So far, this IIT have made my life fully enjoyable when it comes to different activities of students gymkhana in which student participate and coordinate among themselves whether it is a socio-cultural thing or techno-management thing. Placements at IIT Bhubaneswar is far better than other colleges in terms of total student placed and average lpa. This year almost 90% students got placed in different reputed companies and we hope that this figure will reach to 100% by the end they pass out. Seminars and webinars are continuously held from time to time to give corporate exposure to students. Coming to hostels, as i already mentioned above that it is single seated, mess food is always of good quality and surprise inspection is done at different time intervals to ensure its appeal. In simple words, its awesome to be here.

Our college is a recent one but it lags on many fronts in terms of infrastructure of sports and other academic facilities. There is a shortage of faculty for many departments due to a strict selection procedure. Placement scenario is good as compared to most of the colleges. Extra- curricular activities and a a creative environment needs to be developed to tackle the student diversity.

The permanent campus of IIT Bhubaneswar is spreading over 936 Acres of land. It is situated at the foot of Barunei Hill, which is famous for its rich history. The campus provides a unique serene and pollution free academic environment. IIT Bhubaneswar has Academic area, Residential area and area for Training centres and Research Park. Although IIT Bhubaneswar had started functioning from two transit campuses in the Bhubaneswar city during its inception period, majority of residential and academic activities have now started in the permanent campus at Argul. The campus placement is great here.almost 95% out of all registered students gets placed every year.

The college experience has been good till now.

Batch of 2018 | M.Tech Metallurgical and Materials Engineering
Currently, I am in my fourth year. The college experience has been good till now. The first year brought a lot of exposure in various fields including sports, cultural, academics and tech. The departmental faculty is also very good. They are very keen on teaching the topics included in the courses. The professors are very helpful. The branch is primarily a research-based branch and hence students having the interest in the field get ample opportunities to build their career. Also, the alumni network of the college is so huge it adds on to the positive point. The entire college community consists of people excelling in their respective fields. Overall my experience has been good in the college.

Our college ranks 16 among the premier institutes of India. It also has the second largest area of the campus among other IIT'S leaving IIT KGP in the first place. Our college IIT Bhubaneswar is located in the capital city of Orissa i.e., Bhubaneswar. Bhubaneswar is a pleasant city with lesser pollution when compared with other IIT'S. We have an excellent hostel, food and scenarios. We have excellent staff and a large library and also Computer lab with a website ERP where we can get access to a lot of journals and thesis and even can find PDF versions of books etcetera. We have students Gymkhana which ensures the plain functioning of college activities. We also have a gym for our guys to do exercises and stay healthy. If I keep going I can write a book about my college.

New challenges, new opportunities

Since this is a new IIT, a lot is there to achieve. Everything is built from scratch. Nothing is established. Hence the development opportunities are huge. Things are easy to achieve since number of students are not as many as in older IITs. However infrastructure is an obstacle which hinders growth at times. More over, since it is a new college, companies are either unaware or apprehensive to participate in the placements. However the number of students getting admission in master courses abroad are many. Overall, it is a good college.
