Manipur University of Culture, Imphal (MUC), is a state university established in 2015 that is basically engaged in the propagation and conservation of the cultural wealth of Manipur. Situated at Palace Compound, Imphal East, this single institution provides numerous traditional compulsory courses in arts, music, dance, and cultural studies. UGC approved, Manipur University of Culture has a strength of 408 students in total and 91 faculty members in total.
Manipur University of Culture owns various infrastructures equipped to enhance the academic and cultural activities. The library was set up in October 2016, and it contains 2250 printed books, photocopies of 500 rare books, and 2500 digitised books. Manipur University of Culture conducts BA programmes, including BA Dance, Music, Umanglai Haraoba, Thang-Ta, Sankirtana, Theatre and Performance Studies, and Tribal Studies. Manipur University of Culture admission into all BA programmes involves a written test (50 marks), a practical/demonstration-style test (35 marks), and a viva (15 marks). Total seats: 230.
Admission into the Bachelor of Visual Arts (BVA) is undertaken following the same procedure as for the BA programmes. The total seats are 30.
MA Umanglai Haraoba, MA Dance, MA Music, MA Thang-Ta, MA Sankirtana, MA Theatre, MA Visual Arts, MA Tribal Studies, MA Culture Studies, MA English, and MA Manipuri are amongst the master's programmes on offer.
