Manipur University of Culture, Imphal Admission 2025: Dates, Application Form, Courses, Fees & Eligibility

Cultural heritage of Manipur, while the University of Manipur, Imphal, offers multidisciplinary courses in the domains of arts, music, and dance, besides culture studies.

The systems of admission are thereby such that a well-judged selection of the candidates is made according to their attributes for the programs they intend to follow. There are, however, altogether 19 programs (8 undergraduate and 11 postgraduate) available for admission into undergraduate and postgraduate programs, with all being full-time and conducting regular courses.

In the case of the MUC undergraduate program, the selection process is in fact holistic based on:

• 50 marks - Written examination

• Practical/demonstration test - 35 marks

• 15 marks Viva-voce test

The admission process for master's programs is similar:

• Written entrance test

• Presentation

• Interview

Few may, however, be different as per the department/subject concerned in which they get accommodated.

Application Process

1. Admissions Notification: Announcements regarding admissions are done through the official university channels and the local media.

2. Application Form: Candidates fill application forms which they can obtain from the admission office or online.

3. Document Submission: Along with the application form, the following:

   • Passport-size photograph

   • Mark sheets and certificates from qualifying examinations (X, XII, and graduation for postgraduate candidates)

   • Category Certificate (if applicable)

   • Other important certificates as specified

4. Entrance Examination: Written for undergraduate programmes (50 marks), practical/demonstration (35 marks), and viva-voce (15 marks).

5. Postgraduate Selection: Written test, presentation or interview criteria however apply, depending on departmental norms of the specific postgraduate program.

6. Merit List: Therefore a merit list will be prepared based on performance during the entrance test and interview.

7. Counselling and Admission: The pupils selected then present documents and deposit a fee for admittance to be granted.

8. Orientation: New students have an orientation program regarding the institution and academic expectations.

Degree-wise Admission Process

• BA Programs:
  MUC conducts BA programs including BA Dance, Music, Umanglai Haraoba, Thang-Ta, Sankirtana, Theatre and Performance Studies, and Tribal Studies. Admission into all BA programs involves a written test (50 marks), a practical/demonstration-style test (35 marks), and viva-voce (15 marks). Total seats: 230.

• BVA Program:
  Admission into Bachelor of Visual Arts (BVA) is undertaken following the same procedure as for the BA programs. Total seats: 30.

• MA Programs:
  MA Umanglai Haraoba, MA Dance, MA Music, MA Thang-Ta, MA Sankirtana, MA Theatre, MA Visual Arts, MA Tribal Studies, MA Culture Studies, MA English, and MA Manipuri are amongst the master's programs on offer. Admission requires a written entrance test, presentation, and/or interview based on the requirements of the concerned department. Total seats: 260.
