Nava Nalanda Mahavihara, also known as (NNM Nalanda) is a deemed university under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. The institute was established in 1951 by the Government of Bihar as a research institute for Pali and Buddhist studies. The university offers around 22 full-time NNM Nalanda courses in English, Foreign Language, Sanskrit, Hindi, History, Japanese, Philosophy, and Theology.
Nava Nalanda Mahavihara courses are offered at diploma, undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. The courses include diplomas in Chinese, Tibetan, Pali, BA Pali Hons, MA Sanskrit, MA Tibetan Studies, MA Buddhist Studies, Ph.D Sanskrit, PhD Chinese, Ph.D Ancient History Culture and Archaeology and many more.
Nava Nalanda Mahavihara also provides admission to postgraduate diploma programmes such as Vipassana and Yoga, Buddhist Heritage and Tourism Management. The institute offers 1 year certificate courses in Chinese, Tibetan, Pali and Japanese. Nava Nalanda Mahavihara admission is based on the performance of candidates in the proficiency test followed by an interview.
The university provides various NNM Nalanda facilities and services to its students and staff. The university has separate hostels for boys and girls with all the necessary amenities. The university also has a library with a large collection of books and manuscripts.
