Dr. G.U. Pope College of Education, Thoothukudi, is recognized as one affiliated college by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). The mission of this institution is Teacher Education and Training Courses that provide excellent teacher education with a focus on producing quality teachers. The admission process at Dr. G.U. Pope College of Education is designed to select deserving candidates based on their academic performance and other criteria set by the state government, Union Territory administration, and the affiliated university. The college has a merit-based admission policy under which the merit of the students is determined based on the marks obtained either in the qualifying examination and/or in the entrance examination.

The application process for Dr. G.U. Pope College of Education, Thoothukudi, involves:

B.Ed. (Bachelor of Education): B.Ed. course at Dr. G.U. Pope College of Education is a full time, two years course meant for grooming the future teachers. Entrance for this program is admission by merit based on the marks obtained at the qualifying examination and/or entrance examination. The selection process is governed with the policy by the State Government, Union Territory administration, and the affiliated university. The program can accommodate 100 students, approved by the college, thereby making it more competitive.

M.Ed. (Master of Education): For M.Ed., the type of admission process is common for the B.Ed. program with respect to incoming postgraduate qualification. The process selects entrants basing the performance from qualifying examination and entrance examination. The selection process uses state government, central government, university, or UT administration setting policies. Approved intake for the M.Ed. program is 50 students thus offering more specialized and higher-level study within the field of education.
