GVN College Kovilpatti: Admission, Courses, Fees, Placements

The G Venkataswamy Naidu College (GVNC) is located in the state of Tamil Nadu (TN). To be precise, the site is in the town of Kovilpatti, which is in the Thoothukudi district. The college was established back in the year 1966. The college campus runs over a total area worth seventy- two acres of land. The GVNC is affiliated to the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University (MSU), based out of Tirunelveli, in the same state of Tamil Nadu. This university was carved out of the Madurai Kamraj University, back in 1990. This affiliation to the MSU, ensures that the G Venkataswamy Naidu College meets the approval of the UGC (University Grants Commission).

The college has also been accredited by the NAAC (National Assessments and Accreditation Council), earning an A grade rating in it. A separate IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell) has been created to this end, to ensure that all the terms of the NAAC are complied with. An AQAR (Annual Quality Assurance Report) gets generated to quantify the results. This college is named after the Late Shri Kuppuswamy Naidu. He was one of the top entrepreneurs cum philanthropists from the state of Tamil Nadu in the early 20th century. His works exist in Coimbatore, Palladam and of course at Kovilapatti. Sports and educational ventures are also promoted proactively by the group. 

Courses are offered here at the G Venkataswamy Naidu College, right from the UG till M. Phil. levels. At the undergrad level, one may opt for a B.A. in the areas of- English and in Tamil. The BSc. at the same level can be taken up in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Plant Bio Technology, Information Technology, Electronics, Statistics, Costume Design & Fashion and in Computer Science. Some commerce and management courses have also subsequently been added up. These are the B. Com and BBA courses. The said B. Com may also be taken up with the added specialization of Professional Accounting. 

Likewise, at the master’s level, there is the scope here for doing an M. Com. The MA option remains open for the English language. MSc. meanwhile can be done in MSc. meanwhile can be done in Computer Science, Information Technology and in Mathematics. In addition, students here may go for the research- oriented M. Phil programme. It involves a lot of field work. A number of the courses imparted here, may be taken up under the aided programme, while some are only meant for the self- financing mode. The departments here, are formed accordingly, to run the academics. Each department, holds expertise in its own domain area. 

Admissions to the various programmes is based on merit in the school- leaving exams. Research too is given top priority, here at the G Venkataswamy Naidu College. The library here is one of the best stocked within the region. Besides the physical books on display, it also provides digital access to en number of international academic journals for research and academic purposes. There is also a separate Career Guidance and Placement Cell (CGPC), which works tireless, to make sure that the students studying here, are more employable. Specific sessions are held for them based on personality enhancement and soft skills. 

The GVNC has also paid a lot of importance to the broader social good. This is the reason that students studying here have participated in several central and state government schemes. Participation has been strong in schemes such as the NSS (National Service Scheme) and the Youth Red Cross Society. The college even has its own Blood Donor’s Club. Another area of much importance to the institute is entrepreneurship. This is why the Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) has been an active forum here. It helps develop the budding entrepreneurs among the students for the institute. Experienced trainers and entrepreneurs are invited to campus to deliver guest lectures and interact with those who have such business models.

The campus has much to offer. Banking facilities with ATM, PG facilities for both boys and girls, access to public transport, and convenience stores are available just outside the college’s campus. There is a sports field where cricket and football may be played. Facilities are also there for indoor sports. The gymnasium may also be used by all. A large auditorium is there to facilitate major events, at both intra and inter college level. The campus is Wi- Fi enabled. Science laboratories have the latest of equipment. A health centre is also there to cater to medical emergencies. Hygienic food is served at the college cafeteria.
