The institute was earlier known as Karnataka Medical College, but later got changed to Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences, Hubli after receiving the autonomous status from the Government of Karnataka in June 1997. Library- The library of KIMS Hubli has a collection of 10732 text books, 18499 reference books, 142 journals including both Indian and Foreign. The library remains open from 9 am to 11 pm on all working days and 9 am to 3 pm on Sundays and other general holidays. The library is also provided with computers having internet facilities. Other facilities printing and photocopying, scanning, WiFi etc are also provided inside the library.
Hostel- There are 3 hostels provided for girls and 4 hostels for boys for accommodation. The girls hostels are named as Archana Ladies Hostel, Chetana Girls Hostel, Prarthana Intern’s Hostel and the boys hostels are named as Anand Boys Hostel, Charka Hostel, Vivek Hostel, Shusrutha Intern’s Hostel. Rooms are allotted to students based on the availability of seats. All the hostels have a mess facility of their own which serves quality and hygienic food to students. The hostels are provided with wardens to maintain the rules and regulations of the hostel.
