What is Environmental Law

Environmental Law - The laws, regulations and the agreements that are made and implemented by the government and the other various institutions for the protection of the environment are collectively known as the environmental laws. These laws are made to supervise human interaction with nature and to ensure that human activities are not endangering the natural habitats and the lives of the animals and species living there. The environmental laws are although taught in professional courses, the essence of protecting the environment and the awareness needs to be inculcated into students from a young age.

People who have the knowledge about the environmental laws either work as advocates and judges or take up a job in other corporate or legal firms wherein they work to uphold the environmental laws and also research to propose new policies and regulations that help in the protection and the conservation of the natural environment. They can be offered jobs in several different organizations because each of these organizations is bound to follow certain protocols that guarantee the safe use of the natural resources by the environment and also the safeguarding of the laws and regulations that are implemented by the government. 

Eligibility Criteria (UG & PG) of Environmental Law

Law colleges offer various courses that are independent and also integrated with other disciplines and therefore, the eligibility criteria for the admission to the different courses vary a bit. The candidates who wish to pursue environmental law are advised to take BA LLB, B.Sc. Environmental Science followed by LLB, for the undergraduate programs so that they have their basics clear about the subject. For undergraduate environmental law courses

  • The aspiring candidates must complete their class 12 with at least 50 percent aggregate to appear for the entrance exams for the different law colleges in the country.

  • They must hold onto a completion certificate of class 12 from a well- established institute in the country.  

  • The candidates will be required to give the entrance exams in which they must score a great percentile to get into their desired law college.

For Postgraduate Environmental Law courses

  • The candidates who want to specialize in the environmental law must have completed their BA LLB or LLB from an established institute to pursue LLM.

  • They must have a minimum aggregate of 50 percent in their previous law degree.

  • They will also be expected to clear the entrance exams, and the personal interview rounds to get admission into the LLM program.

 For doctoral environmental law courses

  • The candidates need to have their completion certificate of LLB and LLM with a minimum 60 percent aggregate from a recognized law college in the country.

  • They also need to have work experience in the law field.

  • They might have to give entrance exams like GRE to qualify for admission to the PhD law courses.

  • After they have cleared the entrance test, they will be summoned for a personal interview round, and then the admission will be finalized. 

 Environmental Law Entrance Exams

There are a few colleges that accept admission to their environmental law courses on the basis of the merit of the student in their previous academic record. But most of the public universities in the country conduct their entrance exams to accept the aspiring students into their respective law courses.   • CLATCommon Law Admission Test is conducted to carry out the admission process for the students applying to the undergraduate and the postgraduate courses that are offered by the participating National Law universities.  

  • AILETAll India Law Entrance Test is conducted by NLU, Delhi to take admission into their BA LLB, LLM and PhD programs.

  • AMU Law Entrance Exam: This is a university entrance test that is conducted by the Aligarh Muslim University, a distinctive educational institute in the country, to give admission in their undergraduate and postgraduate law courses.

  • LSAT: Law School Admission Test is an entrance exam that is a gateway to the UG and PG courses for over 85 law institutions in the country.
