24 Months- Master of Arts (MA) in Urdu is a full-time two years duration postgraduate course and it is offered by The University of Jammu, Jammu.
- The department of Urdu came into existence in the year 1965 as a full-fledged department of the Jammu Division of the erstwhile University of Jammu & Kashmir. At the initial stages of existence, the department was threatened by the non-availability of students and scholars and as such University Council had, therefore, to allow the department to run its classes in the evening. This shift to the evening timing also enhanced the number of the students. With the passage of the time, research gained momentum and in 1972, the first scholar of the department was awarded Ph.D. Prof. Gian Chand Jain, an Internationally known scholar of Urdu language was the first Head of the Department and Prof. J.N Azad, latter on glorified this department internationally.
Eligibility Criteria
A Candidate seeking admission to the programme must have passed/appeared in the final year of bachelor degree examination with Urdu, Persian or Arabic as elective/additional subject or with honors examinations in any of the above said language.
Admission Details
Admission to a programme of study in the University shall be made on the basis of written objective type Jammu University Entrance Test (JUET) by the Admission Committee of the Department concerned with the approval of the Dean Academic Affairs.
