The Datta Meghe Institute of Engineering, Technology and Research (DMIETR) is located in the city of Wardha, which lies in the eastern part of Maharashtra. The city is an important trade centre for cotton. The college has been named after Shri Datta Meghe, who has been a political figure and an educationist, spreading the message of education across Maharashtra and the region of Vidarbha. He was also the founder of the Meghe Group of Institutions (MGI). The MGI now runs several educational institutions in this region. One of them is the Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences (DMIMS). Another is the Mahatma Gandhi Ayurved College (MGAC).
The other three are- the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Sharad Pawar Dental College (SPDC), the Ravi Nair Physiotherapy College (RNPC) and the Smt. Radhikabai Meghe Memorial College of Nursing. Quite evidently, substantial number of professional course options are on offer here. The Wardha- based Datta Meghe Institute of Engineering, Technology and Research was founded in the year 2008. It is affiliated to the Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj (RTM) Nagpur University, situated as the name suggests, in Nagpur. This affiliation though, ensures its approval from the UGC (University Grants Commission). The technical courses here, have also been ratified by the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education).
Further, the college has also been accredited by the NAAC (National Assessments and Accreditation Council), earning a B grade rating in it. A separate IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell) has been created to this end, to ensure that all the terms of the NAAC are complied with. An AQAR (Annual Quality Assurance Report) gets generated to quantify the results. Courses are offered here at the DMIETR at both the UG as well as PG levels. At the undergrad level, B. E. programmes are available for the engineering areas of- Civil, Mechanical, Information Technology, Computer Science, Electrical and for Electronics & Telecommunication.
At the master’s level, the courses get more technical. So, the M. Tech programme is only available for Electronics & Communication Engineering. Apart from this, on offer is the MBA. The entire academics at the DMIETR is run by a cohort of ten departments, each with expertise in its own area. Six of these departments are for the areas in which the B. E. degrees may be pursued in here. There is another separate independent one for Electronics. There is also one for M. Tech. Another is there for the MBA. Uniquely named, the tenth one is called the First Year.
It deals with the English language courses and the fundamental sciences of physics, chemistry and mathematics. Admissions to the UG programmes is via the MH- CET (Maharashtra Common Entrance Test). Scores of the national- level JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) Mains may also be considered. The GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) may be used up for master’s level admissions. For selection to the MBA programme, scores of any of the nationally- recognized entrance exams such as CAT (Common Admission Test), MAT (Management Aptitude Test), XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test), ATMA (AIMS Test for Management Admissions) or the CMAT (Common Management Aptitude Test) may be considered.
Post the results of these tests being declared, shortlisted students need to appear for the PI (Personal Interview)- WAT (Written Ability Test) round. The college has received grants to fulfil several consulting assignments on behalf of the government or industry at large. Some of the key funding agencies have been the likes of- AICTE, DST (Department of Science and Technology) and the SERB (Science and Engineering Research Board). Several patents have also been awarded to this college, for its innovations and developments.
