The Chhattisgarh Swami Vivekanand Technical University (CSVTU) is based in the industrial city of Bhilai, in the state of Chhattisgarh. It was established in the year 2005, as a need was felt for the creation of a central technical university in the state newly carved out from Madhya Pradesh (MP). The university is thus approved by the UGC (University Grants Commission). Several of the courses are also recognized by the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education). The land for the CSVTU was granted by the Bhilai Steel Plant. The consistent performances the CSVTU has delivered has led to healthy rankings received across platforms. The Careers 360 magazine for instance has placed the university as the 52nd best within the category with a AAA+ rating.
There are several courses on offer at the CSVTU, right from the UG till doctoral levels. At the undergrad level, the BE programme may be pursued in eighteen engineering areas. These are in the areas of- Agriculture, Civil, Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, Applied Electronics & Instrumentation, Automobile, Chemical, Computer Science, Bio Technology, Electrical & Electronics, Information Technology, Electronics & Communication, Electronics & Instrumentation, Metallurgy, Mining, Production and Plastic. Another popular programme at this level is the B. Pharm. Yet another is the B. Arch.
At the master’s level, the courses for the M. Tech get mote specialized in nature. There is a huge plethora of options for this. These are available for the areas of- Software Engineering, Computer Technology, Computer Network, Computer Science Engineering, Data Science, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Information Technology, Electrical Power & Energy System, Digital Electronics, VLSI Design & Embedded Systems, Communication, Instrumentation & Control, Robotics, CAD/CAM, Design & Thermal Engineering, Power System Control, Industrial Safety, Energy Management, Power Electronics, Information Security, Cyber Forensic, Urban Planning, Transportation Engineering and a few others.
Also popular at the master’s level is the MBA programme. This may be pursued on both part- time as well as full- time modes. There is also the option for an MCA. This MCA may also be undertaken on an integrated five- year mode. The M. Pharm. option also thrives here. It may be pursued under any of the eight specialization options on here. These are in the areas of- Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology, Pharmacegoncy, Pharmaceutical Technology, Industrial Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Analysis & Quality Assurance, Chemistry and for the Quality Assurance alone. There is also the option for diploma programmes, as part of the skill development government schemes. This may be pursued in pharmacy and aimed at working professionals seeking skill upgradation. The diploma in engineering may be pursued from any of the several polytechnics run by the CSVTU.
Research also plays a very important role at the CSVTU in Bhilai. For this purpose, the university published two in- house academic journals. One of them is titled as the CSVTU Research Journal on Engineering and Technology. The other is the CSVTU International Journal of Biotechnology, Bioinformatics and Biomedical. The university is also a key facilitator of a Ministry of HRD initiative with the World Bank. It is a programme titled TEQIP (Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme).
The CSVTU has also long been extremely proactive when it comes to international collaboration. Thus, several MoUs have been signed. These agreements help in student and faculty exchange programmes, consulting assignments and for research collaboration. There are three key partners of the CSVTU in Germany. These are – the Rostock University, RWTH Aachen University and the University of Erlangen- Nuremberg. There is also one such agreement with an Indian institute- the Sickle Cell Institute from Raipur in Chhattisgarh. The CSVTU has always believed in providing benefits to the broader society. The students here have likewise been instilled with such value. And that is why the students of the CSVTU have been active participants in government schemes such as the NSS (National Service Scheme)
A large number of institutions are affiliated to the CSVTU. These are spread throughout the state of Chhattisgarh. The cities and towns these colleges are present in include- Bhilai, Durg, Bilaspur, Raipur, Jagdalpur, Rajnandgaon, Balodabazar, Raigarh, Dhamtari, Sauguja, Takhatpur, Khairagarh, Kabirdham, Janjgir- Champa, Mahasamund, Dantewada, Kanker, Narayanpur, Koriya, Sukma, Surguja, Mungeli, Balod, Bemetara, Kondagaon and Korba. Most of the more remote towns primarily deal with the diploma programmes, with the polytechnics present over there.
The campus has much to offer. Convenience stores and banking facilities with ATM are available near the campus. It is also well connected to public transport. There is a sports field where cricket and football may be played. Facilities are also there for indoor sports. A large auditorium is there to facilitate major events, at both intra and inter college level. Science laboratories have the latest of equipment. A health centre is also there to cater to medical emergencies. Hygienic food is prepared at the college cafeteria. The library here is one of the best stocked within the region. Besides the physical books on display, it also provides digital access to en number of international academic journals for research and academic purposes.
