Indian Institute of Information Technology, Nagpur is deemed to be an ‘Institute of National Importance’ and is also a part of the Indian Institutes of Information Technology in India. The institute is mentored by the VNIT, which is an abbreviation of Visvesvarya National Institute of Technology. The college was founded in 2016 under the PPP model, which stands for the public-private partnership model with the institute having been founded by the Ministry of Human Resources Development under the Government of India. The founding partners are the Government of Maharashtra and TCS (Tata consultancy services), Mumbai.
The college is situated in Nagpur and is working from a makeshift location in BSNL training centre near Balaji temple. Among other Indian Institutes of Information Technology, IIIT Nagpur is one of the latest additions having been founded in 2016.

IIIT Nagpur offers two courses to their students. Both courses have different eligibility criteria. Those students who want to take admission in the BTech program should qualify JEE MAINS. For those candidates who are interested in taking admission in the PhD program of the institute, they will have to pass a written test and the personal interview.

The courses that are offered by the IIIT Nagpur are; BTech and PhD programs. Both these programs have a separate admission process. The admission into the BTech program (computer science engineering/electronic and communications engineering) is made through JoSAA counselling and seat allotment. The students will have to fill their choices and then as per the cut-off list; the seats will be allotted.
The admission process in the PhD program (3 years) (computer science engineering/ electronic and communications engineering) is through a written test and an interview. The PhD program is provided to various candidates, ranging from academic students to industry students. For the industry candidates, who only have a bachelor’s degree, 5 years of experience in the engineering, IT-related fields are a must. Also, for the other candidates, having a qualified GATE scorecard is desirable.
The process of admission in the BTech program is:
· Appear for the JEE MAINs examination.
· Declaration of the result.
· Registration of the student and choice filling through JoSAA portal.
· Pay the application fee through net banking.
· Release of the cut off list and the merit list of each specialisation.

The admission process in the Ph.D. programme of the institute is:

Computer science engineering in the last two years has shown improving trends. As the competition is rising, the demand for this course in also increasing among the students. As compared to 2019's closing rank of 30439, in 2020 the closing rank was 29713. Whereas, electronics and communication engineering are showing a fluctuating and declining pattern in competitions. In 2019, the closing rank of the course was 35236 which then rose to 38022 in the year 2020 at the end of 6th JoSAA counselling.

The placement drive for the students of IIIT, Nagpur is organised by the training and placement cell of the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Nagpur. They are always trying to get some of the top-ranking companies in the industry for their students. Not, only do they help find opportunities for their students in India, but also in some international companies based in foreign countries. The training and placement cell is run by the faculty members, professors and training staff.
The training and placement cell not only find placement opportunities for their students, but they help them find an internship in their 7th semester. The process of placement in the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Nagpur is:
Invitation -The companies are invited by the IIIT NAGPUR to hold a placement drive in the campus. The companies are made aware of the students, the courses, the achievements and the number of students in the college. They are sent a clear brochure with every detail of the college along with an invitation letter.
Acceptance and scheduling - The companies then accept their invitation based on their profiles available and the quality of students they can get from the institute. After they accept the invitation, they inform the same to the training and placement cell of the company. Then the placement drive is scheduled, by mentioning the exact date and timing of the company's arrival on the campus.
Registration - Now the students are informed about the companies who have accepted their invitations to come for the placement drive. They are given all the details regarding the company and the profile they are coming to recruit for. The students who show interest in taking part in the company's placement drive will have to register their names at T&P cell. They also will have to submit the required documents to the training and placement cell. The students can take their name back from the registered list before the last date of registration, but, after that, they are not allowed to do so.
Selection day - On the day of the placement drive, the students will be first given a pre-placement orientation. This way will know about the people, who will take their interviews, the process of selection, the profile, the package etc. after this the selection process will start, this process comprises a written aptitude test, technical test, group discussion and personal interview.
Offering the job - In the very last stage, the selected students are offered the job. The company will provide offer letters to the selected students, and they are required to provide them with an answer within 24 hours of receiving the offer letter. The IIIT Nagpur has a one job one student policy. Under this, one student can get only one offer from any company. Ones a student gets offered a job by any company, they cannot participate in any other drive by another company. If any student gets disqualified during the processor does not get selected then only, they are allowed to participate in any other placement drive.
