Course

Eligibility

LLM (Master of Laws)

A candidate who has cleared any one of the examinations that are followed as noted below will be eligible once he qualifies for the entrance examinations for joining the semester 1 of the course of LLM:-

B.A. LL.B. /LL.B. 3 Year Degree/ B.Com. LL.B. 5 Year degree examination from Panjab University with attaining marks that are more than or equal to 55% marks (in case of ST/SC/BC/PwD applicants the marks will be 50%)

OR

Any certification that is as good as the one noted above from a recognized University and approved by the Syndicate for the purpose of admission. 

M.C.A. (Master of Computer Application)

The requirement of a candidate to apply for admission in the first year shall be for the program as noted down:-

A three years duration degree from any recognized institution in any area wherein the score is more than or equal to 50% and also had Mathematics at the level of 10+2 or the eligibility will be same at the level of graduation for all three years

OR

Candidates having obtained BCA degree from Panjab University marks that are more than or equal to  50%. 

OR

B.Voc. (Hardware and Networking), B.Voc. (Software Development) & B.Voc. Multimedia (Graphics & Animation) with a score that is more than or equal to 50% marks and also having the subject of Mathematics at the study of 10+2 level.

OR

Panjab University Chandigarh has recognized institutes and if a candidate has any degree from any such organization then they will be considered as good as any of the above examinations

** Applicants who belong to SC/ST/BC/PwD will get an additional concession of 5% for the purpose of being eligible for admission.

M.A. (Journalism and Mass Communication)

A candidate who clears examinations as below from any one of the University that is recognized: -

A candidate who has a degree that is equivalent to bachelors in any field with marks that are more than or equal to 50% in total.

OR

A candidate who has a degree that is equivalent to bachelors in any field with marks that are more than or equal to 45% in the field of Journalism and Mass Communication.

OR

Degree of bachelors with Honours in the field of Journalism & Mass Communication.

OR

Any candidate having a degree equal to that of masters in any area of discipline.

Master’s in public health

A candidate who has a degree that is equivalent to bachelors in any field with marks that are more than or equal to 50% in total.

M.A. (English)

A candidate who has passed any one of the examinations as listed below from any University that is recognized or the Panjab University itself and the examination that is conducted is as per the examination that is conducted by the Panjab University shall be eligible.

Possessing a bachelor’s degree with marks that are more than or equal to 45% marks in English Compulsory subject or English Elective

OR

A degree that is equivalent to that of Bachelors in any discipline with marks that are more than or equal to  50% in total.

OR

B.A. with Honors in the language of English

OR

B.Sc./B.A. with Honours in the field that is not English and scoring marks that are more than or equal to  50% in total.

OR

A degree that is equivalent to that of Masters in any discipline with marks that are more than or equal to  50% in total.

The passing score in entrance examination that is conducted in the language of English has been raised to 35% (30% in case of applicants who belong to the ST/SC/BC/PwD) w.e.f the session starting in 2013-2014.

M.A. (Geography)

A candidate will be able to apply only if:-

A degree that is equivalent to that of Bachelors in any discipline with marks that are more than or equal to  50% in total.

OR

A candidate has cleared the examination in Geography in the B.Sc or B.A. by scoring marks that are more than or equal to 45% in total

OR

The candidate who has attained a PG diploma in the field of Cartography by securing a second division and more.

An entrance exam will be conducted for the process of admission to the course.

Master in Disaster Management

A candidate who has a degree that is equivalent to bachelors in any field with marks that are more than or equal to  50% in total from any recognised University or from Panjab University shall be eligible and the admission is conducted through an Entrance Exam for the course. 

OR

Candidates other than those who are provided fellowship by the Government or Semi-Government Institutions and Organizations will be necessitated to be able to qualify for the Entrance Exams taken by the Panjab University, Chandigarh.

Master in Geo-informatics

A degree that is equivalent to that of bachelors with Physics/Geography/ Geophysics/ Mathematics/ Geology/ Computer Science/ Botany/ Environment Science / Urban Planning/ Regional Planning / B.Tech./ B.C.A. or Degree that is equivalent to that of Masters in the field of Mathematics/ Geology/ Physics/ Computer Applications/ Geography / Geophysics/ Computer Science /Botany/ Environment Science / M.C.A./ Urban Planning/ Regional Planning with score that is more than or equal to 50% marks in total. Entrance exam is conducted for the admission to the course.

M.A. (Economics)

The applicants who want to appear for the entrance exams for taking admission to the course of M.A. Economics which falls under the Department of Economics, Panjab University, Chandigarh from the academic year that begins from 2019-20 will be subject to the following eligibility conditions:

The applicant has to clear the exam of B.A. with Economics Honours

OR

Degree in B.A. with specialization in the field of economics as a subject with a score that is more than or equal to 50% marks in total.

OR

Candidate must have any other degree in any field that has recognition from the UGC or is as good as the degree that is mentioned from the Panjab University.                                 

M.A. (Social Work)**

The candidates who have qualification as listed below are eligible for the admission procedure:

Having a degree that is equivalent to that of Bachelor's and securing score that is more than or equal to 45% marks in the subject of Social Work or 50% in total

OR 

Having a degree that is equivalent to Bachelor's  in any discipline and securing marks that are more than or equal to  50% marks

OR

Having completed successfully B.A. with Honors in the field of Social Work or B.Sc. Honours

OR

Having a degree that is equivalent to masters in examination in any other area.

The SC/ST/BC/PwD applicants have relaxed norms and will be allowed an additional 5% relaxation in the criteria requirements for eligibility.

Those applicants who have still not cleared their bachelors but are appearing for the examinations of final year are also eligible to apply for the examinations.

M.A.(History)

B.A. with Honours with specialisation in History.

OR

Having a degree that is equivalent to that of bachelors in any stream with a score of more than or equal to 50% marks in total.

OR

B.Sc. (PASS)/ B.A. (PASS) in the conducted examination in all the subjects and securing marks that are more than or equal to 45% marks in the field of History.

OR

Candidate having a master’s degree in history or any other field.

OR

The percentage of passing the entrance examinations is 35% in history for general category and 30% in case of applicants who belong to SC/ST/BC/PwD.

Condition is that the applicant must pass the written Entrance Test that is conducted by Panjab University, Chandigarh.

M.E. (Chemical)

Five Year Integrated B.E.(Chemical) – MBA or B.Tech /B.E. (Chemical) (04Years) or scoring marks that are more than or equal to 60% marks in the total (in few cases wherein the students are provided with the CGPA degree, University or Head of the Department provides with the formula of conversion that is to be issued by the relevant in the examination to be qualified for i.e. Five- Year Integrated B.E. (Chem.) – MBA or B.E./B.Tech. (Chemical) (04 years) or any other qualifying degree that is as good as it and approved by the Syndicate of Panjab University.

OR

PU-CET (P.G.) merit test is held by the Panjab University, Chandigarh and the applicant must clear it in order to be admitted.

Applicants who have qualified for the GATE will not be required to clear the PU-CET (P.G.). As per the GATE Score secured the seats shall be offered first to those candidates on the basis of the qualification and eligibility criteria.

M.E. (Food Technology)

A candidate needs to have B.E./ B.Tech. degree with a specialisation in any one of the following Dairy Technology/ Food Engineering/ Food Technology / Agricultural Engineering/ Chemical Engineering / Chemical Technology (04Years) or Five Year Integrated B.E.(Chemical) – MBA or B.Tech /B.E. (Chemical) (04Years) or scoring marks that are more than or equal to 60% marks in the total (in few cases wherein the students are provided with the CGPA degree, University or Head of the Department provides with the formula of conversion that is to be issued by the relevant in the examination to be qualified for i.e. Five- Year Integrated B.E. (Chem.) – MBA or any other qualifying degree that is as good as it and approved by the Syndicate of Panjab University.

Five Year Integrated B.E.(Chemical) – MBA or B.Tech /B.E. (Chemical) (04Years) or scoring marks that are more than or equal to 60% marks in the total (in few cases wherein the students are provided with the CGPA degree, University or Head of the Department provides with the formula of conversion that is to be issued by the relevant in the examination to be qualified for i.e. Five- Year Integrated B.E. (Chem.) – MBA or B.E./B.Tech. (Chemical) (04 years) or any other qualifying degree that is as good as it and approved by the Syndicate of Panjab University.

OR

A degree that is equivalent to those of masters in Applied Chemistry / Technical Chemistry/ Chemistry with Mathematics with graduation Industrial / or an equivalent examination with scores that are more than or equal to 55% marks in total from Panjab University (in few cases wherein the students are provided the CGPA degree, University or Head of the Department provides with the formula of conversion that is to be issued by the relevant in the examination to be qualified for) or any other University that has been given recognition by Panjab University.

Applicants who have qualified for the GATE will not be required to clear the PU-CET (P.G.). As per the GATE Score secured the seats shall be offered first to those candidates on the basis of the qualification and eligibility criteria.

M.Sc. (Industrial Chemistry)

A candidate who has a degree in B.Sc. (Three Year Course) with Chemistry and Mathematics as subjects that are compulsory orB.Sc. (Hons.) Mathematics with Chemistry as subject that are compulsory or B.Sc. (Three Year Course) with Mathematics and Industrial Chemistry as a subject that is compulsory or any other examination that is equivalent and is approved by the Syndicate, Panjab University, Chandigarh. A candidate seeking admission must have scored marks that are more than or equal to 60% marks in the total (in few cases wherein the students are provided the CGPA degree, University or Head of the Department provides with the formula of conversion that is to be issued by the relevant in the examination to be qualified for.

M.E. Electrical Engg. (Instrumentation & Control) Regular Programme

B.E. / B. Tech or equivalent in Electronics/ Instrumentation and Control/ /Electrical Engineering having scored marks that are more than or equal to 60% marks in the total (in few cases wherein the students are provided the CGPA degree, University or Head of the Department provides with the formula of conversion that is to be issued by the relevant in the examination to be qualified for any other qualifying degree that is as good as it and approved by the Syndicate of Panjab University.

Applicants who have qualified for the GATE will not be required to clear the PU-CET (P.G.). As per the GATE Score secured the seats shall be offered first to those candidates on the basis of the qualification and eligibility criteria.

M.E. (Electronics and Comm. Engg.) (Regular Programme)

B.E. or B. Tech or equivalent in Electronics & Communication Engineering / Electronics / Electronics and Telecom Engineering having scored marks that are more than or equal to 60% marks in the total (in few cases wherein the students are provided the CGPA degree, University or Head of the Department provides with the formula of conversion that is to be issued by the relevant in the examination to be qualified for any other qualifying degree that is as good as it and approved by the Syndicate of Panjab University.

Applicants who have qualified for the GATE will not be required to clear the PU-CET (P.G.). As per the GATE Score secured the seats shall be offered first to those candidates on the basis of the qualification and eligibility criteria.

M.E. (Computer Science and Engg.) (Regular Programme)

B.E. or B. Tech or equivalent in Engineering/Information Technology and Computer Science and having scored marks that are more than or equal to 60% marks in the total (in few cases wherein the students are provided the CGPA degree, University or Head of the Department provides with the formula of conversion that is to be issued by the relevant in the examination to be qualified for any other qualifying degree that is as good as it and approved by the Syndicate of Panjab University.

Applicants who have qualified for the GATE will not be required to clear the PU-CET (P.G.). As per the GATE Score secured the seats shall be offered first to those candidates on the basis of the qualification and eligibility criteria.

M.E. Computer Science and Engineering (Cyber Security)

B.E. or B. Tech or equivalent in Engineering/Information Technology and Computer Science and having scored marks that are more than or equal to 60% marks in the total (in few cases wherein the students are provided the CGPA degree, University or Head of the Department provides with the formula of conversion that is to be issued by the relevant in the examination to be qualified for any other qualifying degree that is as good as it and approved by the Syndicate of Panjab University.

Applicants who have qualified for the GATE will not be required to clear the PU-CET (P.G.). As per the GATE Score secured the seats shall be offered first to those candidates on the basis of the qualification and eligibility criteria.

M.E. Civil Engineering (Construction Tech. & Mgt.) (Regular Programme)

A Degree in Civil Engineering that is equivalent to bachelors from a University that has obtained recognition or its equivalent with a CGPA that is more than or equal to that of 6.75 of 60% marks in aggregate. Applicants who have qualified for the GATE will not be required to clear the PU-CET (P.G.). As per the GATE Score secured the seats shall be offered first to those candidates on the basis of the qualification and eligibility criteria.

M.E. Mechanical Engineering (Manufacturing Tech.) Regular Programme

A Degree in Automobile Engineering/ Production Engg. / Mechanical Engg./ Industrial Engg./ Manufacturing Technology that is equivalent to bachelors from a University that has obtained recognition or its equivalent with a CGPA that is more than or equal to that of 6.75 of 60% marks in aggregate. Applicants who have qualified for the GATE will not be required to clear the PU-CET (P.G.). As per the GATE Score secured the seats shall be offered first to those candidates on the basis of the qualification and eligibility criteria.

M.E. Electrical Engg. (Power System)

Any applicant who has finished B.E./B.Tech.in Electronics Engineering and Electrical/Electrical & having scored marks that are more than or equal to 60% marks in the total (in few cases wherein the students are provided the CGPA degree, University or Head of the Department provides with the formula of conversion that is to be issued by the relevant in the examination to be qualified for any other qualifying degree that is as good as it and approved by the Syndicate of Panjab University.

Applicants who have qualified for the GATE will not be required to clear the PU-CET (P.G.). As per the GATE Score secured the seats shall be offered first to those candidates on the basis of the qualification and eligibility criteria.

M.Tech. Material Science & Technology

M.Sc. (Chemistry), M.Sc. (Physics), B.E.(Civil/ Electrical/ Mechanical/ Electronics and communication/ Production) having scored marks that are more than or equal to 60% marks in the total (in few cases wherein the students are provided the CGPA degree, University or Head of the Department provides with the formula of conversion that is to be issued by the relevant in the examination to be qualified for any other qualifying degree that is as good as it and approved by the Syndicate of Panjab University.

Applicants who have qualified for the GATE will not be required to clear the PU-CET (P.G.). As per the GATE Score secured the seats shall be offered first to those candidates on the basis of the qualification and eligibility criteria.

M.E. Biotechnology

B.E. / B.Tech. in Engineering or Biotechnology having scored marks that are more than or equal to 60% marks in the total (in few cases wherein the students are provided the CGPA degree, University or Head of the Department provides with the formula of conversion that is to be issued by the relevant in the examination to be qualified for any other qualifying degree that is as good as it and approved by the Syndicate of Panjab University.

M.E. Computer Science & Engineering

B.E. or B.Tech. or equivalent in Information Technology / Computer Science and Engineering has scored marks that are more than or equal to 60% marks in the total (in few cases wherein the students are provided the CGPA degree, University or Head of the Department provides with the formula of conversion that is to be issued by the relevant in the examination to be qualified for any other qualifying degree that is as good as it and approved by the Syndicate of Panjab University.

Applicants who have qualified for the GATE will not be required to clear the PU-CET (P.G.). As per the GATE Score secured the seats shall be offered first to those candidates on the basis of the qualification and eligibility criteria.

M.E. Electronics & Communication Engineering

B.E. or B.Tech. or equivalent degree in Electronics & Communication Engineering / Electronics / Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering having scored marks that are more than or equal to 60% marks in the total (in few cases wherein the students are provided the CGPA degree, University or Head of the Department provides with the formula of conversion that is to be issued by the relevant in the examination to be qualified for any other qualifying degree that is as good as it and approved by the Syndicate of Panjab University.

M.E. Information Technology

B.E. or B.Tech. or equivalent degree in Electronics & Communication Engineering / Computer Science & Engineering / Information Technology / Computer Science & Electronics Engineering/ Electrical & Electronics Engineering / Software Engineering having scored marks that are more than or equal to 60% marks in the total (in few cases wherein the students are provided the CGPA degree, University or Head of the Department provides with the formula of conversion that is to be issued by the relevant in the examination to be qualified for any other qualifying degree that is as good as it and approved by the Syndicate of Panjab University.

Applicants who have qualified for the GATE will not be required to clear the PU-CET (P.G.). As per the GATE Score secured the seats shall be offered first to those candidates on the basis of the qualification and eligibility criteria.

M.E. Mechanical Engineering

B.E./ B.Tech. in Production Engineering / Mechanical Engineering having scored marks that are more than or equal to 60% marks in the total (in few cases wherein the students are provided the CGPA degree, University or Head of the Department provides with the formula of conversion that is to be issued by the relevant in the examination to be qualified for any other qualifying degree that is as good as it and approved by the Syndicate of Panjab University.

M.Tech. Microelectronics

B.E. / B.Tech. or equivalent degree in Information Technology / Electronics & Electrical Communications / Electrical & Electronics / Electronics / M.Sc. Applied Physics / Computer Science and Engineering / Electrical / Microelectronics / Electronics & Telecommunication / Electronics & Communication / Instrumentation Engineering/ M.Sc. Physics with specialization in Electronics / M.Sc. in Electronics (as by AICTE approval having scored marks that are more than or equal to 60% marks in the total (in few cases wherein the students are provided the CGPA degree, University or Head of the Department provides with the formula of conversion that is to be issued by the relevant in the examination to be qualified for any other qualifying degree that is as good as it and approved by the Syndicate of Panjab University.

Applicants who have qualified for the GATE will not be required to clear the PU-CET (P.G.). As per the GATE Score secured the seats shall be offered first to those candidates on the basis of the qualification and eligibility criteria.

M.Com. (Business Economics)

The Syndicate of the Panjab University gives recognition for the purpose of the degree holders degree being valid at its place or not. Once a degree that is either a bachelor or master’s degree is available by a university that has been acclaimed to be valid by the syndicate and the candidate has secured marks that are more than or equal to 50% in total is eligible for the process of admission.

It is to be noted that the candidate along with having a bachelor's degree if have opted for subjects such as Punjabi, Urdu, Hindi or classical languages like Persian, Sanskrit and Arabic than the scores will be taken into account by calculating the total marks in all languages except the paper that is provided as optional such as English and the elected subject that is taken together.

OR

A candidate who clears the final examination that is held by (a) The (ICWA) Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India or England (b) The (ICAI) Institute of Chartered Accountants of India or England, (c) the Institute of Company Secretaries of India.

OR

Passing the AMIE examination with marks that are more than or equal to 50% marks after also having cleared the examination in diploma by securing marks that are more than or equal to 60% and having an experience of not less than 5 years in teaching/ research or professional experience.

OR

Any other qualification which has been approved by the Panjab University Syndicate for the aforesaid purpose.

M.Com. (Master of Entrepreneurship and Family Business)

The Syndicate of the Panjab University gives recognition for the purpose of the degree being valid at its place or not. Once a degree that is either a bachelor or masters degree is available by a university that has been acclaimed to be valid by the syndicate and the candidate has secured marks that are more than or equal to 50% in total is eligible for the process of admission.

OR

A candidate who clears the final examination that is held by (a) The (ICWA) Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India or England (b) The (ICAI) Institute of Chartered Accountants of India or England, (c) the Institute of Company Secretaries of India.

M. Com (Hons.)

B. Com. / B. Com. (Hons.)/BBA with marks that are more than or equal to 45% in total.

OR

A candidate who has cleared the graduation with Honours in Mathematics or Economics or Commerce or Statistics with marks that are more than or equal to 45% marks in total.

OR

A candidate who has cleared the graduation with marks that are more than or equal to 50% marks in total having offered subjects in field of Mathematics, Economics, Commerce, Statistics, Information Technology, Computer Application, or Computer Science as a subject in the examination. It is to be noted that the candidate along with having a bachelor’s degree if have opted for subjects such as Punjabi, Urdu, Hindi or classical languages like Persian, Sanskrit and Arabic than the scores will be taken into account by calculating the total marks in all languages except the paper that is provided as optional such as English and the elected subject that is taken together.

OR

M.Com (Business Innovation)

Below mentioned qualifications are required for the purpose of a candidate to be eligible for the Entrance exam for M.Com (Business Innovations).

B. Com. / B. Com. (Hons.)/BBA with marks that are more than or equal to 45% in total.

OR

A candidate who has cleared the graduation with Honours in Mathematics or Economics or Commerce or Statistics with marks that are more than or equal to 45% marks in total.

OR

A candidate who has cleared the graduation with marks that are more than or equal to 50% marks in total having offered subjects in the field of Mathematics, Economics, Commerce, Statistics, Information Technology, Computer Application, or Computer Science as a subject in the examination. It is to be noted that the candidate along with having a bachelor’s degree if have opted for subjects such as Punjabi, Urdu, Hindi or classical languages like Persian, Sanskrit and Arabic than the scores will be taken into account by calculating the total marks in all languages except the paper that is provided as optional such as English and the elected subject that is taken together.

OR

A candidate who clears the final examination that is held by (a) The (ICWA) Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India or England (b) The (ICAI) Institute of Chartered Accountants of India or England, (c) the Institute of Company Secretaries of India.

Any other qualifications which have been approved by the Panjab University Syndicate for the aforesaid purpose.

MBACIT

The Syndicate of the Panjab University gives recognition for the purpose of the degree holder's degree being valid at its place or not. Once a degree that is either a bachelor or masters degree is available by a university that has been acclaimed to be valid by the syndicate and the candidate has secured marks that are more than or equal to 50% in total is eligible for the process of admission.

Master of Business Administration for Executives (MBAfEX)

B. Com. / B. Com. (Hons.)/BBA with marks that are more than or equal to 45% in total.

OR

A candidate who has cleared the graduation with Honours in Mathematics or Economics or Commerce or Statistics with marks that are more than or equal to 45% marks in total.

OR

A candidate who has cleared the graduation with marks that are more than or equal to 50% marks in total having offered subjects in the field of Mathematics, Economics, Commerce, Statistics, Information Technology, Computer Application, or Computer Science as a subject in the examination. It is to be noted that the candidate along with having a bachelor’s degree if have opted for subjects such as Punjabi, Urdu, Hindi or classical languages like Persian, Sanskrit and Arabic than the scores will be taken into account by calculating the total marks in all languages except the paper that is provided as optional such as English and the elected subject that is taken together.

B.P.Ed (Bachelor of Physical Education)

A candidate having cleared the examination with below-mentioned qualifications are eligible:

A degree that is equivalent to bachelors in any  field  with  marks that are more than or equal to 50%  and  having  participated in any one of the  Inter-Zonal District/ Inter- College/ School competition in sports and games that are being given recognition by the SGFI/IOA/AIU/ Govt. of India;

OR

Bachelor's Degree in physical education with marks that are more than or equal to 45%.

OR

Degree that is equivalent to bachelors in any stream with marks that are more than or equal to 45% and physical education was studied as the compulsory elected subject.

M.Sc. (Two-Year Course) Medical Physics

A candidate who has a degree in B.Sc. (Three Year Course) with Chemistry and Mathematics as subjects that are compulsory orB.Sc. (Hons.) Mathematics with Chemistry as a subject that is compulsory or B.Sc.(Three Year Course) with Mathematics and Industrial Chemistry as a subject that is compulsory or any other examination that is equivalent and is approved by the Syndicate, Panjab University, Chandigarh. A candidate seeking admission must have scored marks that are more than or equal to 60% marks in the total (in few cases wherein the students are provided the CGPA degree, University or Head of the Department provides with the formula of conversion that is to be issued by the relevant in the examination to be qualified for.

The Entrance Examination for Physics with specialization in Electronics and Medical Physics and Physics will remain the same.
