Can you take an MBA entrance exam more than once and use your highest score for admission? The answer depends on the examination and the B-school you are applying to. While SNAP officially allows three attempts and considers the highest score, NMAT-accepting institutes can follow different score-selection rules. MAT may also accept the best score from multiple attempts. SNAP is one of the most flexible MBA entrance examinations for candidates who want multiple opportunities within the same admission cycle. This article compares MBA entrance exams with multiple attempts, including the number of attempts, examination dates, registration fees, retake costs, and institution-specific score-use policies

As per the SNAP 2026 official policy for multiple attempts and retake guidelines:
Candidates can appear for up to three tests.
If they appear for more than one test, the higher score will be considered for the final percentile calculation.
There will be no normalisation of scores across the attempts.
The scores of all three tests are not added or averaged. Only the highest score is considered. The official guidelines also explain that question papers are designed and assessed to maintain comparable difficulty levels across the three tests. This is separate from the stated rule that there is no score normalisation across attempts.
For example, suppose a candidate appears for all three SNAP tests and obtains the following scores:
SNAP attempt | Score obtained |
SNAP Test 1 | 36 |
SNAP Test 2 | 43 |
SNAP Test 3 | 39 |
In this case, the candidate's highest score is 43 in SNAP Test 2. Therefore, 43 will be considered for the final percentile calculation.
Final SNAP score considered: 43 marks.
Yes. For SNAP 2026, the higher score among multiple attempts will be considered while calculating the candidate’s final SNAP percentile. However, securing a higher percentile does not guarantee admission to a Symbiosis institute.
Candidates must separately apply to their preferred MBA programmes and meet the shortlisting criteria of the SNAP-accepting colleges. Those shortlisted must then appear for the subsequent selection rounds, including Group Exercise and Personal Interaction, as applicable.
Thus, candidates appearing for all three SNAP 2026 tests can benefit from their best score, but final admission will depend on the institute’s overall selection criteria and performance in the subsequent rounds.
The following table provides a consolidated comparison of the six major MBA entrance examinations and their score rules.
Exam | Attempts | Test schedule | Fee per attempt | Score-use rule |
SNAP | 3 | December 13, 19, 26 | Rs. 2,550 | Highest score |
NMAT | 3 | November 2–December 20 | Rs. 3,000 | Institute-specific |
MAT | Multiple administrations | February, May, August/September, December | Rs. 2,300 per mode | AIMA accepts best score |
5 per rolling 12 months | Throughout the year | Variable | Superscore available; school policy applies |
The NMAT by GMAC also allows candidates to take the examination up to three times in a testing cycle, including the first attempt and two retakes.
However, NMAT does not impose a common best-score policy on all accepting B-schools. GMAC directs candidates to check the respective institute's policy to understand which attempt will be considered.
This is where candidates need to be particularly careful. Two institutes accepting NMAT scores can follow completely different policies.
All NMAT-accepting colleges may not consider the best of three attempts. Candidates must check the admission policy of their preferred institute before applying or paying for a retake NMAT exam. Also, candidates must note that the NMAT registration information mentions a minimum seven-day gap after a valid scorecard.

Best of two attempts | |
Other NMAT-accepting institutes | Check the respective institute's admission guidelines |
AIMA's official policy accepts the best score from multiple MAT attempts. However, it also specifically advises candidates to recheck score acceptance with individual institutes. Moreover, each institute may have its own cutoffs, eligibility conditions, and admission criteria. Therefore, the best-score facility provided by AIMA should not be interpreted as a guarantee that every MAT-accepting institute will use the same score-selection or admission policy.

Unlike CAT and XAT, which are conducted once a year, the GMAT is available throughout the year. Candidates can book multiple attempts to improve their scores, subject to the prescribed retake limits. The important GMAT retake rules are:
Candidates must maintain a minimum gap of 16 calendar days between two attempts.
A maximum of five attempts is permitted within a rolling 12-month period.
Candidates can take the GMAT up to eight times in their lifetime.
Both online and test-centre attempts count towards the attempt limit.
