What is Logistics and Supply Chain Management

If your interest lies in designing a network to accelerate the inventory movement process of an organisation, then a programme in Logistics and Supply Chain Management is best suited to you. Logistics is, perhaps, one of the most important divisions in an organisation, which ensures that inventory reaches its customers from the point of manufacture. A programme in Logistics and Supply Chain Management teaches you to build strategies to design a supply chain which ensures optimum utilisation of resources and reduces cost of the organisation. Besides theoretical understanding, the course also trains students through internships and practical projects, which form part of the course curriculum.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility for UG: Candidates should have passed 10+2 board examination; introduction to business management programmes are advantageous

Eligibility for PG: Candidates should have an undergraduate degree from any discipline. Previous subjects like accounts, finance, business management could help in getting credits.

Scope of Logistics and Supply Chain Management

According to a Fortune report, the logistics industry is worth 1$.3 trillion. However, it is still facing a dearth in terms of recruitment and requires 1.4 million new supply chain workers by 2018. This offers a wide range of job opportunities for students pursuing this programme. In fact, the demand for supply chain managers is such that many universities around the world organise supply chain only fairs which attract hundreds of companies looking to recruit logistics students for either internships or full-time positions. Interestingly, the last few years has seen many startups engage in inventory movement like Flipkart and Snapdeal. Such companies are looking to expand their supply networks to various corners of the country which requires the expertise of supply chain managers.
