About CSK HPKV
Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya (CSKHPKV), Palampur was earlier known as Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya, and it was renamed as Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya in June 2001. CSKHPKV was established in 1978. University has been ranked 11th among 75 farm Universities/Deemed Universities/ICAR Institutes of India. The University has been given the mandate for making provision for imparting education in agriculture and other allied branches of learning and work towards the advancement of learning and prosecution of research and undertaking extension of such sciences, especially to the rural people of Himachal Pradesh. The University was established with the mission to create a knowledge society on hill and mountain agriculture, and to provide access to knowledge and skills in hill and mountain agriculture. And to ensure wider recognition of university in hill and mountain agricultural education. The University has four constituent colleges. The College of Agriculture has 13 departments, Dr.G.C.Negi College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences has 18 departments, the College of Community Science has five departments and the College of Basic Sciences has four departments. These colleges offer five Bachelor Degree programmes, 14 Masters Degree and 7 Doctoral Degree programmes.
Location: CSKHPKV is located at a distance of 3 km and 5 km from the Palampur Bus Stand and Palampur Railway Railway Station respectively.

Centres and Cell of CSKHPKV:
- Counselling: Counseling cell provides students with the necessary guidance to deal with day to day issues or severe issues that become a hindrance in their academic performance.
- NCC: NCC cadets of CSKHPKV are actively involved in programmes such as environmental conservation, literacy, AIDS awareness, blood donation, rescue operation during natural calamities. The NCC cadets are offered coaching to qualify NCC “BEE” and NCC “CEE” certificate examination conducted by the NCC authority. This helps them to qualify Combined Defence Services Examinations.
- NSS: CSKHPKV’s NSS unit organises different educational, social, developmental programmes as per the directives of the Department of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India and the NSS Regional Centre from time to time. The Unit organises cleanliness, shramdan, tree plantation. It also organises social and community works in the adopted villages. It also celebrates important weeks and national days like World Breast Feeding Week, International Youth Day, NSS Day, International Literacy Day, and National Integration Day, etc.

Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya, Palampur offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral courses in the field of agriculture. The Directorate of Research coordinates research in the field of agriculture, veterinary and animal sciences, community science and basic sciences. It has been giving priority to the location-specific, need-based and problem-oriented research with the multidisciplinary approach at main campus Palampur, 3 Regional Research Stations (Bajaura, Dhaulakuan & Kukumseri) and 10 Research Sub-stations (Kangra, Malan, Nagrota, Salooni, Akrot, Berthin Sundernagar, Sangla, Leo & Lari) situated in all four agro-climatic zones of the State. The University offers admission to the courses based on the merit as well as based on the entrance test. Admissions to the undergraduate courses - B.Sc. Physical Sciences (Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics), B.Sc. Life Sciences (Botany, Zoology & Chemistry), B.Sc. (Hons.) Community Science and B.Tech. (Food Technology) & Doctoral Programmes are based on merit. Admissions to B.Sc.(Hons.) Agriculture and B.V.Sc.& AH and M.Sc Agricultural and M.V.Sc are based on the entrance test.

Careers360 shortlists over 5000 colleges across domains each year. Out of these colleges, only those colleges are rated/ranked which provide transparent data requested by Careers360. There four hostels for boys and one for international students. Each hostel is looked after by a Warden who is appointed from amongst the faculty. The hostel messes are being run on the Drcooperative basis and the hostel residents are responsible for their management. The hostels have been provided with computers equipped with internet facility, CCTV cameras, washing machines, etc., besides television and facilities for indoor games.
There are five hostels for girls. Each hostel is looked after by a Warden who is appointed from amongst the faculty. The University has its own health centre. In addition, medical facilities are also available at Vivekanand Medical Research Institute and Specialty Hospital, Palampur, Sub-Divisional Hospital, Palampur, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda and Zonal Hospital, Dharamshala.
The library of the University at Palampur campus is well equipped with all the relevant reading material. It caters to the needs of the students, teachers, extension specialists and the staff of the University. Library provides online i.e. web based On-line Public Access Catalogue, access to full text online journals through CeRA (Consortium for e-Resources in Agriculture) and online CAB Abstract, access to e-books, e-theses and other reading material. Library is fully automated with RFID (Radio Frequency Identification Device) system integrated with KOHA Library Management System. The FAO has designated the University Library as “FAO Repository” and therefore, is entitled for FAO publications free of cost. Himachal Section of the Library is fully equipped with books on Himachal Pradesh and books written by the authors of Himachal origin. All the books of Himachal Section are available in digital form also.
The University has a well-maintained playground with 400 meters standard track with facilities to play volleyball, football, hockey, cricket, besides a well-equipped gymnasium and indoor table tennis, basketball and badminton courts.
