    About Goa University,Taleigao Plateau, Goa

    The university was established in 1984 through the Goa University Act and started functioning from 1985. There are 61 colleges affiliated to Goa University. The university has 5 schools on its campus. The campus size of the university is spread over an area of 402 acres of land. Goa University is accredited by National Assessment and  Accreditation Council with grade A.  with a score of 38.6, Goa University has secured 96th rank in the university category in the NIRF 2021 ranking. The university is also recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The mission and vision of the university is to impart tertiary level of education and attain global competency in teaching and research. 

    Undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level courses are offered in the Goa University. Some of the popular courses offered are B.Lib.I.Sc. Self Finance, M.A., M.Sc., M.Com, M.C.A., M.B.A, M.B.A Financial Services Self Finance and Ph.D. Admissions to these courses are either merit based or entrance and merit based. For M.B.A programme admission, group discussion and personal interview and for Ph.D programme, interview is also conducted. The total number of faculty members in the university is 176 and total number of students enrolled is 2043. The university also has many national and international collaborations. 

    There are ample facilities offered at Goa University. Some of them are boys hostel, girls hostel, library, sports, IT infrastructure, cafeteria, auditorium, medical clinic, laboratories, convenience store, guest room, etc. Goa University has a placement cell and career counselling cell. The placement cell conducts various activities like workshops, seminars, guest lectures, industrial visits, group discussions, mock interviews and placement fairs.     The university is located in University Road, Taleigao, Goa. There are various modes of transport to reach Goa University. One can travel by air, road or rail to reach the university. The nearest railway station to the university is Dabolim Railway Station. The distance between the railway station and the university is 7.78 km and would take 10-15 minutes to reach the university by an auto or a cab. Goa International Airport is the nearest airport to Goa University and is located at a distance of 23.9 km. It would take approximately 34 minutes to reach the campus via cab. The nearest bus stop is Panjim Bus Stand and is 7.7 km from the university. It takes 12 minutes from the bus to reach the university.

    • NSS- National Service Scheme of Goa University organises awareness programmes like international yoga day, swachh bharat, disaster management, road traffic awareness, blood donation camps, PFMS training and many more. The members of NSS help educate the common people through these programmes.

    Goa University Facilities

    The university is endowed with many facilities. The university provides facilities to provide a comfortable environment for the overall development of the students. Some of the Goa University facilities are hostels, cafeteria, medical clinic, laboratories, bank, library, IT infrastructure, wifi and sports. There are more than one hostels available for each boys and girls students. Students can avail the hostel facility at the time of admission. Hostel rooms are allotted first to postgraduate and research students and then to other students. The university is fully wifi enabled and students and faculty members can access the facility for free.

    There is an on campus bank facility. The university has State Bank of India on its campus which provides all the banking-related services to the students and staff members. The bank also provides 24X7 ATM service. The university provides both indoor and outdoor games. The indoor games include chess, carrom, badminton, table tennis, taekwondo, etc. There are separate fields and courts maintained for outdoor games like football, basketball, volleyball, cricket and many more. Private and small convenience stores like stationery and photocopy are also there in the campus. 

    Medical clinic of Goa University has trained medical doctors. The university has all the facilities in its medical clinic in case of an emergency. Goa University facility also has a 24X7 on service ambulance. The university has departmental laboratories. The laboratories are equipped with modern apparatus and instruments to help students in attaining practical knowledge. Goa University cafeteria provides hygienically prepared multi-cuisine food. Students and staff members can enjoy their free time in the university cafeteria. The IT department is well connected with computers.

    Goa University Admissions

    Admissions to undergraduate programme, postgraduate programmes and Ph.D programmes are offered by the university either on the basis of merit or both entrance test and merit. Candidates are selected on the basis of merit for B.Lib.I.Sc., M.A., M.Sc., M.Com programme. Entrance may be conducted for Goa University admission to B.Lib.I.Sc. programme depending on the number of seats. Entrance test  is conducted by the university for admission to M.Sc. Electronics, M.C.A., M.Sc. Marine Science, M.B.A Self Finance, M.A. Economics, M.Sc. Chemistry and M.Sc. Biochemistry. After that merit list is prepared on the basis of marks obtained in the entrance test, except for M.Sc. Chemistry and M.Sc. Biochemistry, where the merit list is prepared based on the qualifying marks and entrance test both. For Goa University admission to M.B.A programme and M.Sc. Marine Biotechnology candidates have to appear for national level entrance tests. Group discussions and interviews are also conducted for M.B.A programme admission. Merit lists for both the programmes are prepared accordingly. Goa University admission process for Ph.D programme involves entrance test and interview.

    Goa University Scholarships

    Scholarships are provided by the university with the aim of helping the financially constrained students in pursuing their dream career. Goa University scholarships are offered to deserving candidates and to those who meet the scholarship eligibility criteria. The various scholarships provided by the university are Research Studentship, Merit Scholarship and Free Studentship. Students at Goa University can also avail central government and state government scholarships.

    1. Research Studentship- To avail this scholarship, candidates have to obtain at least second class in graduation and minimum 55% marks in master’s degree. The candidates must be pursuing a full-time Ph.D programme.

    2. Merit Scholarship- To avail this scholarship, candidates should be pursuing a full-time PG programme and should have obtained at least 60% aggregate marks in arts/commerce/management studies stream and 65% aggregate marks in science stream  in the last qualifying exam

    3. Free Studentship- Those students whose annual family income is up to Rs 3,00,000 and have minimum 45% aggregate marks in arts/commerce/management studies stream and 50% aggregate marks in science stream  in the last qualifying exam are eligible to get this scholarship.

    4. Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Post Matric Scholarship for ST Students- Goa- Candidates who belong to Scheduled Tribe and have passed 10+2 or higher examination are eligible to get this scholarship. They should have an annual family income up to Rs 2,00,000. Under this scheme, Rs 550, Rs 530, Rs 300 and Rs 230 are awarded to Group 1, Group 2, Group 3 and Group 4 respectively. 

    Goa University Placement

    There is a placement and training cell at the university. The university also provides career counselling to the students. Before Goa University placement, the university conducts various pre-placement training. The training involves group discussions, mock interviews, industrial visits, seminars, workshops, placement fairs and many more. After that, Goa University placement cell invites various companies to its campus for placement.
