Indian Institute of Technology Palakkad was established in the year 2015-2016 under The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. The institute was formed with the help of IIT Madras. The institute started functioning with its first batch of students in B.Tech programmes including civil engineering, computer science & engineering, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering. The institute has its temporary campus in Ahalia and the transit campus at Kanjikode. Other masters and doctoral programs in engineering, mathematics, physics and chemistry also started functioning later. Library- The Central Library of IIT Kerala was established in August 2015 which has a collection of books providing necessary information to students in the field of science, engineering and technology. The library also has a collection of CD-ROM, scientific kits etc. The library is also well equipped with computers and RFID system which provides access to easy transactions. The library also has WiFi and LAN facilities which helps students and staff to search for any information.
Hostel- IIT Palakkad provides two hostels for boys and one hostel for girls provided with attached bathrooms. Other facilities like dining hall and a recreational area, an indoor games area, a fitness center, RO based drinking water system and a washing machine are also provided inside the hostels. Facilities for playing football, volleyball, basketball and table tennis are also provided inside the hostels.
Career Development Centre- IIT Palakkad has a Career Development Centre (CDC) which has a professor-in-charge and placement officer who guides the students about the training/internship and placement opportunities.
Sports Facility- The institute offers facilities for playing football, volleyball,basketball and table tennis for their development in co-curricular activities. All students are trained by professional coaches for athletics, football, volleyball and cricket.
Central Computing Centre- IIT Palakkad is provided with a Computing Centre with 70 desktops which are well equipped with modern software and technology to meet the requirements of students and staff. All the computers are provided with an internet connection of 1 gbps.
Innovation Laboratory- The Innovation Lab is well equipped with dual-head 3D printer, a CNC router, a CNC milling machine and a CNC lathe where students convert their ideas into prototypes and products.
