The two-and-a-half-year-long Master of Design (M.Des.) in Ceramic and Glass Design programme at NID is offered at its campuses in Ahmedabad.
The Ceramic and Glass discipline offers tremendous expressive qualities in the domain of art and creativity as well as functional possibilities in the realm of craft, architectural spaces, healthcare, hospitality industry, home décor, hi-tech products, and lifestyle product categories.
This program at NID takes inspiration from both art and craft traditions of the country and it equally recognizes its potential and scope in the future of mass production and new technologies. An extensive exposure provided towards the craft sector, studio-based practice as well as ceramic and glass industry brings in awareness towards a wider range of production techniques and variety of work environments & work culture.
Admission to all of the design courses is on the basis of the candidates’ performance in the two-stages of Design Aptitude Test. The objective of these exams is to assess the knowledge, skills and behavioral abilities of candidates.

All applicants applying for the M.Des. programme (any discipline) must fulfill criteria of both age and education qualification.
In addition to satisfying the above age criteria, the candidate must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications to be considered eligible for admissions:
Bachelor degree of minimum 4-year duration in any specialization, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard from any university or institute recognized by law in India. Condition: Applicant must have passed the Bachelor degree examinations at the time of document verification tentatively scheduled.
Bachelor degree of minimum 3-year duration in any specialization, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard. Condition: Applicants must have passed the Bachelor degree examinations before July 2018.
Full-time Diploma of minimum 4-year duration in Design/Fine Arts/Applied Arts/ Architecture, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard, from any university or institute recognized by law in India. Condition: Applicants must have passed the Diploma examinations at the time of document verification tentatively scheduled.
*Applicants in the final year of their Bachelor degree/ Full-time Diploma programme whose universities may not have issued the final degree certificate by the date of application to NID are eligible to apply, subject to passing all subjects without any backlog. Such a candidate will have to submit/produce Provisional Degree certificate at the time of counseling.
