At NIMHANS (Bengaluru), hostel facilities are available for research staff like JRFs, SRFs, RAs, and project fellows, but allotment depends on availability and priority.

Facilities:

Separate hostels are available for male and female research staff (like Bhavani Hostel and Staff Hostels).
Rooms are generally shared and include basic amenities like bed, table, and Wi-Fi.
Accommodation is limited, so not everyone is guaranteed a room.

Application Process:

After joining, submit a hostel application form to the Hostel Office or Warden.
Attach a copy of your appointment letter and ID proof.
Rooms are allotted based on seniority, joining date, and availability.
Pay the hostel fee (if applicable) and follow NIMHANS hostel rules.

Yes, NIMHANS provides hostel rooms for research staff, but you must apply through the hostel office soon after joining since seats are limited and allotted on a priority basis.

Congrats on getting MPH admission at NIMHANS! It’s actually a really good institute, especially if you’re interested in mental health, neurology, or public health connected to these areas. If you want to focus on mental health and related public health work, NIMHANS is honestly one of the best places in India.

But if you’re aiming for a wider exposure in public health—like working in big hospitals, international health projects, community medicine, or policy making—then AIIMS or JIPMER might give you more variety and bigger opportunities. AIIMS usually has the best overall exposure, more research options, and a stronger public health network across India and even abroad.
