MD Psychiatry is a postgraduate Full-Time three-Years Course and it is offered by the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences Bangalore.
Training of Postgraduate students is centered on a biopsychosocial framework of clinical
care, coupled with hands-on research and academic activities. This not only enables
the trainees to excel in providing high-quality clinical services, but also provides them
with technical acumen to pursue independent research, teach and lead in the field of
mental health and neurosciences.
The clinical services at the Department of Psychiatry, NIMHANS, are organized into
outpatient and inpatient services under general adult psychiatry (6 clinical units),
addiction medicine, psychiatric rehabilitation services, and community psychiatry.
There is the active liaison with the Department of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. There
is a well-established psychotherapy supervision program. Regular assessments and
feedback form part of a 360-degree formative assessment.
Selection will be purely based on merit in the ONLINE entrance test
Candidates who have MD/MS/DNB/DPM from a recognized University or from any other University
recognized as equivalent thereto by NIMHANS and by the Medical Council of India may apply for the
course. However, Candidates who are awaiting the results may also appear for the entrance test subject
to production of proof of having passed the examination on or before the date of admission to the course.
