The Sikkim University was established in 2007 by the government of India. The university is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with grade “A”. Sikkim University Gangtok is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The mission and vision of the university is to provide quality education and nurture professionals to serve the society and the nation.
The popular courses offered by Sikkim University are B.A., B.P.A., M.A., M.Sc., M.Com, M.B.A, M.C.A., M.P.A., M.T.T.M., M.Ed., L.L.M, M.Phil and Ph.D. Admission to UG and PG programmes are done on the basis of merit score of the CUET entrance test, candidates approaching admission UG programmes in Sikkim University must appear in CUET UG and PG courses should appear in CUET PG examination. The Sikkim University has six schools of studies. Sikkim University also has three research centers, namely Centre for Endangered Languages funded by the UGC, Maulana Azad Centre for Northeast Studies funded by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies, Kolkata and Centre for Bioinformatics funded by Department of Biotechnology, Government of India.
The Sikkim University provides many facilities. The facilities provided by the university are boys hostel, girls hostel, library, sports, gym, medical clinic, transport, wifi, IT infrastructure, guest house and many more. Sikkim University also has a placement cell. The placement cell of the Sikkim University conducts various pre-placement training. The university also provides scholarships to meritorious students and financially backward students. Students can also apply for UGC scholarships. The university also has a counselling cell and NSS.
