Atal Bihari Vajpayee Vishwavidyalaya is a state university, established in June 2012. The university is also known as Bilaspur Univesity (BU). The university is recognised by UGC and it is a member of Association of Indian University. The total of 173 Govt. and private colleges are affiliated to Atal Bihari Vajpayee Vishwavidyalaya, formerly called Bilaspur University in the 05 districts of Chhattisgarh. Skill Development Programmes: Atal Bihari Vajpayee Vishwavidyalaya in collaboration with Tata Institute of Social Science (TISS) Mumbai is running a skill development programme, which is a National University Students Skill Development (NUSSD) Programme. Under this programme, students are trained in market-oriented programmes. NUSSD also organises the training programmes on personality development and communication skills and helps students to prepare better for the recruitment process. The NUSSD also makes sure that they can help most of the students getting placed into various companies and industries by helping them in every possible way.
NUSSD promotes entrepreneurship among the students as entrepreneurship plays an important role in the country's economic development. It is useful for the process of industrialisation and economic growth. The rate of economic progress of a nation depends upon its rate of entrepreneurship development in the people. Education requires entrepreneurship development awareness to promote entrepreneurship for building the nation. NUSSD provides various information with reference to starting a business to budding student entrepreneurs and to create entrepreneurial culture among students. It fosters better linkages between industries and R and D activities of the college and promotes innovation The cell regularly organises camps, seminars, workshops, industrial visits and other developmental programmes.
National Service Scheme (NSS): The programme is sponsored by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt. of India. The National Service Scheme (N.S.S) was initiated in 1969-70 with a view to promote social consciousness and develop a sense of responsibility as well as a sense of discipline and dignity of labour among the youth of the University. BU regularly organises the community-based programmes to inculcate the spirit of service in students.
