The two-and-a-half-year-long Master of Design (M.Des.) in Graphic Design programme at NID is offered at its campuses in Ahmedabad.

We have been witnessing a dramatic change in the way a graphic designer works. The rapid changes in the way communication is happening in the recent context of technological advancement has made through the understanding of graphic design much more important than ever before. This programme prepares students to take on all new context challenges and technological advancements in the field of Visual Communication and especially in Graphic Design domain.

Paradoxically, traditional skills have become more necessary than before. Quality and creative solutions contextual to the user’s needs are still a basic human input. The fundamental importance of creating a visual vocabulary through drawing, the development of aesthetic judgment, values of form, proportion, image, and word have become an integral part of learning graphic design at NID.

During their period of study, students in graphic design are encouraged to work on a variety of projects, majoring in the selected sub-domain of graphic design.  The areas covered include typography & type design, publication design, image making, illustration, photography, packaging, print design, corporate identity, branding, information & communication systems in the digital domain as well as analogs medium.

Eligibility Criteria

All applicants applying for the M.Des. programme (any discipline) must fulfill criteria of both age and education qualification.

Age Limit:

● For Indian Nationals in General Category & General EWS Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1991 are eligible to apply for admission. 

● For Indian Nationals in Reserved Category (Other Backward Class-Non Creamy Layer (OBCNCL), Scheduled Caste (SC) & Scheduled Tribe (ST): Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1988 are eligible to apply for admission. 

● For Indian Nationals in Person with Disabilities (PwD) Reserved Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1986 are eligible to apply for admission. 

● For Foreign Nationals in Overseas (Supernumerary) Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1991 are eligible to apply for admission.

Educational Qualification:

In addition to satisfying the above age criteria, the candidate must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications to be considered eligible for admissions:

Bachelor Degree of minimum 4-year duration in any specialization, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard from any university or institute recognised by law in India. Condition: Candidate must have passed the Bachelor Degree examinations at the time of document verification tentatively scheduled in May/June 2023*. 

OR 

Full-time Diploma of minimum 4-year duration in Design/Fine Arts/Applied Arts/ Architecture, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard, from any university or institute recognised by law in India. Condition: Candidates must have passed the Diploma examinations at the time of document verification tentatively scheduled in May/June 2023*. 

OR 

Bachelor Degree of minimum 3-year duration in any specialization, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard. 

Condition: Candidates must have passed the 3-year Bachelor degree examinations by August 2022.

Candidates in the final year of their Bachelor degree/ Full-time Diploma programme whose universities may not have issued the final degree certificate before that last date of application to NID, are eligible to apply, subject to passing all subjects without any backlog. Such candidates will have to submit/produce Provisional Degree certificates at the time of document verification.  

Important Note:

  • Candidates yet to appear for their qualifying exam (ONLY Full-time Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline under 10+2+4 system or more) are eligible to apply, provided they produce proof of having acquired the minimum required qualifications at the time of document verification. Candidate must produce a valid certificate (Provisional/Degree)at the time of document verification tentatively scheduled in June. Failing to produce the provisional degree certificate, such candidate’s candidature will stand canceled & will not be offered admission. Their seat will be offered to the next candidate in order of merit.
  • If the results of their final year of graduation (under 10+2+4 system or more only) have not been declared by the concerned board or university at the time of submitting the application, such candidate will have to submit provisional degree certificate at the time of document verification scheduled in June.
  • Any candidate who has not appeared for their final qualifying exam before the physical verification of documents will not be eligible for admission.

Admission Details

Admission to all of the design courses is on the basis of the candidates’ performance in the two-stages of Design Aptitude Test. The objective of these exams is to assess the knowledge, skills and behavioral abilities of candidates.

College Infrastructure

Our college infrastructure is very very good as college have all the advance facilities from advance classroom to studios to advance and well-furnished library. College area is clean and well maintained by the staff. college do provide hostels for student, but food of the college hostel is not good. As I take admission, they provide me design kit and campus has best good training facility for students like advance board, advance software laptops for designing. College campus does have sports area for students.
