NIT Sikkim: Admission, Courses, Fees, Placements

NIT Sikkim is an autonomous Institute of National Importance, was established in 2010 by an act of parliament. NIT Sikkim is also one among the National Institutes that are recognised as premier institutes in India. Currently the NIT Sikkim offers UG, PG and doctoral programmes in the fields Science and Technology. The NIT Sikkim offers B.Tech and M.Tech programmes in Computer Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, and  Civil Engineering, and M.Sc in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.  Admissions for B.Tech courses conducted through the JoSAA/CSAB counselling on the basis of JEE Mains. For NIT Sikkim M.Tech admission, GATE score is mandatory,  and JAM exam is mandatory for M.Sc admissions. Ph.D admissions followed by a written test conducted by NIT Sikkim.

NIT Sikkim  Courses 

The NIT Sikkim offers B.Tech, M.Tech, Ms.C and Phd programmes at undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels; in total the NIT Sikkim provides 19 courses in B.Tech, M.Tech, M.Sc., and Ph.D. programmes. The B.Tech, M.Sc and M.Tech Courses in engineering and sciences are available in regular mode, P.hD programme offered in both regular and distance mode at the institution. The duration of programmes is that is minimum 2 years and extend 4 years for B.Tech it may vary for Doctoral course based on the mode of research.

NIT Sikkim Cut off

NIT Sikkim is one of the premier national autonomous institutes in India, the cut off and competition for securing the seat is usually high. The cut off depends on various factors such as number of students, region, reservation, availability of seats. However, based on the previous years cutoff score, candidates may need to score around 85-95 percentile or above for admission to NITs. NIT cutoff rank 2023 may vary significantly from year to year and it is subject to change. The latest cut off will be released after JoSSA/DASA counselling.

NIT Sikkim Admissions 

NIT admissions are done through various modes and entrance examinations conducted  at All India level by  NTA. The B.Tech or other UG candidates need to appear in the JoSAA/CSAB counselling, based on the rank in JEE Main entrance examination. Admission to M.Tech programmes given based on the merit in GATE examination, personal interview, Non Gate candidate must appear for Institute Admission Test ( IAT). For admission to Ph.D., in the streams of Engineering, Science, Humanities is conducted through the written entrance test and personal interview at the NIT Sikkim.

NIT Sikkim Scholarships

NIT Sikkim is a government funded autonomous institute and also eligible under UGC regulations, various scholarships and financial aid are covered under various schemes and programmes by both state and union governments. NIT Sikkim offers various scholarships and financial aids to its students to encourage them to pursue the academic career. There are several scholarships available at NIT Sikkim to assist the eligible students who may require the financial support during the course. 

The Available scholarships at NIT Sikkim: Merit-cum-Scholarship, Central Sector Scholarship, National Scholarship to the high percentage students in 10+2 examination, MCM Scholarship and Post Matric Scholarship to the SC/ST/OBC students. Students are encouraged to apply for external scholarships provided by various organisations.

NIT Sikkim has a well established infrastructure facility and placement training cell, NIT Sikkim has a good track record in placements from its commencement. Every year NIT Sikkim has been witnessing a successful placement session, with over top MNCs participation in campus drive and placements to the large  number of eligible students. From the recent data, placements-2022, Sikkim NIT highest  package stood at Rs. 18 LPA, and the NIT Sikkim median salary package was Rs. 8 LPA.
