The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Sikkim offers a variety of degree programmes, including a four-year undergraduate B.Tech programme in various fields, which include civil, Mechanical, CSE/ECE and Electrical Engineering. Two years duration full-time postgraduate programmes M.Tech and MS.c in various areas in the fields of Science and Technology. NIT PhD programme offered in full and part-time modes in the fields of Humanities, Science and Engineering. To be eligible for admission to UG, PG and doctoral-level programmes, candidates are required to meet the NIT Sikkim eligibility criteria.
Admission to these programmes is conducted through various entrance examinations. For NIT Sikkim B.Tech admissions students need to appear for JEE Mains and must appear for JoSSA or CSAB counselling. For M.Tech programmes the candidates must appear for CCMT or direct through IAT counclings, seat allotment will be done by the respective boards/authorities. For the MS.c programme the students must have appeared in the JAM exam and attend the CCMN or IAT counselling process. All the phD admissions given by NIT Sikkim On merit basis.

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority allocates seats for admission to B.Tech programmes based on JEE Main merit, in accordance with the government of India's standard policy for CFTIs and NITs.
Candidates need to register and appear for the JEE Main entrance examination conducted by NTA.
Those candidates who have qualified in entrance score and ranked under prescribed cut off given by institute must take part of JoSAA/CSAB counselling, and select NIT Sikkim and course that is offered at NIT Sikkim
The NoSSA/CSAB counselling shortlisted candidates for admission must accept offer letters in order to confirm admission

Admission to the M.Tech. Programme for GATE qualified candidates are made through the CCMT counselling process, sponsored candidates also eligible for admission. Non GATE and non sponsored candidates can apply through the IAT

See, the true reality is that the National Institute of Technologies (NITs) which are situated in the North-East of our country (Assam, Sikkim, Mizoram, Meghalaya etc.) they do not have a very impressive infrastructure, and many labs are make-shift labs with no permanent construction.
So, yes it is true that you'll have to go to IIT KGP for some things but that's perfectly fine. Being an NIT, it will always uplift your CV no matter what, so I think that you should definitely go for it!
