About NEHU Shillong

North-Eastern Hill University was established in 1973 by the Act of Parliament. The act has been passed by both houses of the parliament with the assent of the president. The campus of the university is spread over an area of 1225 acres of land. NEHU Shillong is accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with grade A. The university is also recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC). As per the NIRF ranking 2021 for the university category, NEHU has been ranked 59 whereas its NIRF ranking for the year 2020 in the same category was 49. In the NIRF rankings of 2021, the university has been ranked 90th in the overall category.

NEHU Shillong Scholarships

The scholarships provided by the university are NEHU PG Merit Scholarship, UGC-NON- NET Fellowship for Research Scholars and The North-Eastern Hill University Students’ Aid Fund. Candidates aspiring for North-Eastern Hill University scholarships, have to meet the eligibility criteria. After meeting the eligibility criteria, students are awarded the scholarship amount.

NEHU PG Merit Scholarship- To avail the scholarship, candidates should have minimum 55% marks in graduation in honors/major subject (B.A./B.Sc./B.Com/B.Ed./B.B.A, etc). Under this scheme, Rs. 250 per month/Rs. 3000 per annum is awarded.
The North-Eastern Hill University Students’ Aid Fund- This scholarship is awarded to poor and deserving students who are in need of financial assistance or loan on the basis of merit and/or interview. Rs. 3000 per student for PG and Rs. 4000 per student for UG is awarded under this scheme.

Courses offered by NEHU Shillong

North-Eastern Hill University offers admissions at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level programmes. For admission to the courses, candidates have to follow the NEHU Shillong admission criteria, which is different for different courses. For B.A. L.L.B (H) programme, candidates have to appear for a written test. Candidates are selected based on merit scores of the written test. According to the North-Eastern Hill University admission process for B.Tech and B.Arch programme, candidates have to appear for the entrance test. Candidates have to appear for JEE Main for B.Tech and NATA for B.Arch. After the declaration of the result, candidates are selected on the basis of scores of JEE Main. In the case of B.Arch, candidates are selected on the basis of marks of the qualifying exam (50% weightage) and NATA (50% weightage).

Candidates have to appear for GATE for the M.Tech programme. For admission to the programme, candidates are selected on the basis of merit score of GATE. In case of vacant seats, the university conducts an entrance test and accordingly merit-based selection is done. NEHU Shillong Scholarship

North-Eastern Hill University provides scholarships to meritorious and deserving candidates. NEHU Shillong scholarships are NEHU PG Merit Scholarship, UGC-NON- NET Fellowship for Research Scholars and The North-Eastern Hill University Students’ Aid Fund. To avail the scholarships, candidates have to meet the eligibility criteria. For NEHU PG Merit Scholarship, candidates should have minimum 55% marks in B.A./B.Sc./B.Com/B.Ed./B.B.A, etc. The graduation should be an honors or as a major subject. UGC-NON- NET Fellowship for Research Scholars are awarded to those candidates who are admitted to M.Phil/Ph.D. Additional requirements of this NEHU Shillong scholarship are that, candidates have to assist the University/Institution in the academic work, tutorials, evaluation of the test papers, laboratory demonstration, supervision of fieldwork, library activities like group seminars and symposia, etc. Financial assistance or loans are also provided to the poor students in the form of tuition fees, examination fees, purchase of textbooks, stationery, hostel charges, expenses on clothes and emergency medical expenses, etc through The North-Eastern Hill University Students’ Aid Fund. To avail the assistance, candidates are selected on the basis of merit and/or interview. The North-Eastern Hill University scholarships with the eligibility criteria and scholarship amount are given in the table below.
