Godavari Institute of Engineering & Technology (GIET), Rajahmundry invi....
The Godavari Institute of Engineering and Technology (GIET) is located in the city of Rajahmundry. This town is part of the East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh (AP). The institute is named after the mighty Godavari river, which is the longest of the peninsular rivers in southern India. The river is the lifeline of the state of Andhra Pradesh. The Godavari Institute of Engineering and Technology was established in the year 1998. Its luxurious campus is spread over three- hundred acres of land. The GIET has been affiliated to the Jawaharlal Nehru Technical University- Kakinada (JNTUK), also from the same state of AP. This affiliation ensures approval of the UGC (University Grants Commission).
Further, the college has also been accredited by both the NBA (National Board of Accreditation) and the NAAC (National Assessments and Accreditation Council). It has earned an A grade rating in the latter. A separate IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell) has been created to this end, to ensure that all the terms of the NAAC are complied with. The GIET belongs to a select list of colleges in India, which have been ISO (International Organization for Standardization) certified. The technical courses here, have also been ratified by the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education). Noted educationist- Shri K.V.V. Satyanarayana Raju is considered the founder to this college.
Courses are run, here at the GIET in AP, at both the UG as well as PG levels. At the undergrad level, B. Tech programmes are available with seven main specializations. These are in the engineering areas of- Automobile, Mining, Civil, Mechanical, Computer Science, Electronics & Communication and for Electrical & Electronics. At the master’s level, the courses get more technical. So, the M. Tech programmes are available for the areas of- Computer Science & Engineering, Structural Engineering, Power Systems, Digital Electronics & Communication Systems, Software Engineering, Thermal Engineering, VLSI Embedded Systems and for CAD/ CAM (Computer Aided Design/Manufacturing). In addition, one can also go for an MCA from here.
Some management courses may also be undertaken here. One is the conventional MBA. The other two are Masters of Technology Management and the Master’s of Applied Management. Dual and integrated degree options are also available here. Admissions to these programmes is via nationally or state- wise recognized entrance examinations. Scores of the JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) Mains or the AP EAMCET (Andhra Pradesh Engineering Agricultural and Medical Common Entrance Test) are considered for admissions at the UG level. The GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) or the AP PGECET (Andhra Pradesh Post Graduate Engineering Common Entrance Test) scores are similarly considered for admissions to the M. Tech programmes at the master’s level.
The APICET (Andhra Pradesh Integrated Common Entrance Test) meanwhile does the job for the management programme here. The entire academics at the Godavari Institute of Engineering and Technology is run by a cohort of eleven departments, each with expertise in its own area. Seven of these are in the areas where the undergrad engineering courses are offered in. Another is for the entire M. Tech programme. There is also one each for the MBA and the MCA. The last one is the Department of Humanities and Basic Sciences. This one takes care of the fundamental sciences of physics, chemistry and mathematics, plus the language courses.
Besides the departments for the academic areas, one may also find here, similar ones on some diploma programmes that are offered up. These may be taken up in any of the existing engineering areas at the under- grad level. Such courses are aimed at working professionals seeking a skill upgrade. These courses are taken up by external students. Some doctoral programmes may also be pursued in here. The GIET has also been extremely proactive in sealing agreements with foreign universities. This helps in research collaboration, facilitating exchange programmes and generating consulting assignments. Such partners of the GIET are located all over the world, in the countries of USA, UK and in Canada.
Research also plays a very important role in the development of the Godavari Institute of Engineering and Technology from AP. For this purpose, several centres of excellence have been curated over here. One of them is by the tech firm Virtusa. Hebeon has started its own incubation centre, to help budding entrepreneurs. American tech giant- Microsoft, has not only developed its own innovation centre here, this particular one, has been awarded as the best in the country of its kind. Several training sessions are also organized by the Training and Placement Cell. This has resulted in healthy placement figures for the college.
An annual Student HR Summit is also organized so that the students get access to recruiters, with whom they may network. Some of the key recruiters from campus over the recent seasons have been the likes of- Byjus, TCS, Virtusa, HCL, Unisys, CAPE, International Paper, Value Labs, HGS, Infosys, Wipro, Polaris, Cognizant, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Mphasis, Miracle, Mando, Eureka Forbes, Spandana, Syntel, Tech Mahindra, FACE, Capgemini, CCCL and many more. The rankings have also as a result gone up across the platforms. The Careers 360 magazine for instance has placed the GIET within the AAA category among engineering colleges.
Careers360 shortlists over 5000 colleges across domains each year. Out of these colleges, only those colleges are rated/ranked which provide transparent data requested by Careers360. The cumulative scores of colleges are then calculated and they are divided into clusters as per their scores. Careers360 ranks private and government colleges separately as the support system of both types of Institutions is completely different.
