Master of Dental Surgery in Oral Pathology and Microbiology course shall be of three years duration. All the candidates for the postgraduate degree of MDS are required to pursue the recommended course for at least three academic years as full-time candidates in an institution affiliated to and approved for Postgraduate studies by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka, and recognized by the Dental Council of India.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must meet all requirements stipulated by DCI. They should have successfully passed their B.D.S. from an institution recognized by DCI and must have completed or completing their internship by 30th of April of the relevant academic year.
  • Foreign national students shall also qualify in the National Entrance Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-MDS) in the relevant year of admission and obtain requisite percentile as notified by the Dental Council of India for admission to the MDS Course.
  • As per the Existing Post Graduate Regulation of Dental Council of India, the minimum percentage of marks in the Entrance Test for eligibility and admission to Post Graduate Courses shall be 50% for General Merit candidates and 40% for the candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes (All India) and Other Backward Classes belonging to Karnataka State only.
  • Every student, selected for admission to the Post Graduate Dental course in the Dental College, must possess recognized B.D.S. degree or equivalent qualification and should have obtained permanent registration with the Dental Council of India, or any of the State Dental Council or should obtain the same within one month from the date of admission, failing which the admission of the candidate shall be canceled.
  • In the case of an Indian national with the recognized degree from Foreign University, the Dental Council of India may, on payment of the prescribed fee for the registration, grant temporary/permanent registration for the duration of the Post Graduate training restricted to the college / institution to which the applicant is admitted for the time being exclusively for Post Graduate studies.

  • Temporary/Permanent registration to such candidates shall be subject to the condition that the degree is duly registered in the country where the degree is obtained and is recognized by the corresponding Council or concerned authority in India also.
  • A candidate for admission to the MDS course (Master of Dental Surgery) must have a recognised degree of BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) awarded by an Indian University in respect of recognised Dental College under section 10(2) of the Dentists Act, 1948 or an equivalent qualification recognised by the Dental Council of India and should have obtained permanent registration with the State Dental Council. Candidates not possessing a recognized Dental qualification for the above purpose should secure the prior approval of his qualifications by the Dental Council of India before he can be admitted to the MDS Course of any University in India. , provided that in the case of a foreign national, the Dental Council of India may, on payment of the prescribed fee for registration, grant temporary registration for the duration of the postgraduate training restricted to the dental college/ institution to which he is admitted for the time being exclusively for postgraduate studies;
  • Provided that further temporary registration to such foreign national shall be subject to the condition that such person is duly registered as a dental practitioner in his own country from which he has obtained his basic dental qualification and that his degree is recognized by the corresponding dental council or concerned authority.
  • Foreign national student shall have a valid visa, Eligibility Certificate from the University, NoC from the External Affairs Ministry and Health & Family Welfare (Dental Education), Government of India, NoC / Temporary Registration by the Dental Council of India, Provisional Registration from the Karnataka State Dental Council.  

Admission Details

  • Admissions to the first year MDS course shall be made within the sanctioned intake.
  • All the admissions will be considered based on the NEET - PG result of the relevant year as per the merit determined based on the percentile score as notified by the Dental Council of India.
  • Eligible candidates shall be considered for admission based on merit as per the NEET-MDS entrance test and uniform allotment by Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA).
