The university offers admission to undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes. AAU Jorhat admissions are offered in the branches such as agricultural science, veterinary science, agriculture business management, food processing, horticulture, sciences etc. AAU Jorhat courses offered for admissions are B.Sc., B.V.Sc., M.Sc., M.B.A. etc.  AAU Jorhat admission to undergraduate programmes is based on the performance of students in the common entrance test. Students who have passed 10+2 from the science stream having the certificate of permanent residence of Assam only should apply for the entrance examination for Assam Agricultural University admissions. Admission into the B.V.Sc.& A.H. programmes of the university will be governed by the Veterinary Council of  India. Students need to qualify for NEET to be eligible for AIPVT counselling. However, for AAU Jorhat UG admissions, candidates must meet the eligibility criteria as prescribed by the university.

The university conducts a common entrance examination for admission to master’s programmes for AAU Jorhat PG admissions. However, it is mandatory for students to appear for the entrance examination for Assam Agricultural University admissions. AAU Jorhat PG entrance examination is conducted faculty wise. For students from the general stream (basic science) seeking admission into M.Sc. (Food Tech.), M.Sc (Agri) in Biotechnology and M.Sc. (Agri) in Biochemistry and Agricultural Chemistry, a separate entrance test will be conducted. Admission to all departments at AAU Jorhat is given based on the common merit list prepared by the university on the basis of marks obtained in the entrance examination. Separate merit lists will be prepared for the faculties of veterinary science, community science and fisheries science. For Assam Agricultural University Ph.D. admissions, candidates need to appear for the entrance examination that consists of a written test and an interview. The written test will have two papers- paper 1 and paper 2. A  personal interview will be conducted among the qualified candidates immediately after the written test. The final selection will be made based on the following criteria: academic performance/record, written test and personal interview.

The university offers a total of six courses: B.Sc. Agriculture Hons, B.Sc. Horticulture Hons, B.Sc. Community Science Hons, B.Sc. Food Nutrition and Dietetics Hons, B.Sc. Sericulture Hons and B.V.Sc. Animal Husbandry for Assam Agricultural University admissions. Candidates have to appear for an entrance examination for AAU Jorhat UG admissions. Admission to B.V.Sc. Animal Husbandry depends on the AIPVT counselling for which, candidates need to appear for NEET.

• Students must register for the counselling of AIPVT by filling the application form on the official website.

• AIPVT entrance examination was scrapped in 2017 following which counselling for veterinary colleges is done on the basis of merit position in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).

• Candidates who will qualify for NEET can only participate in AIPVT counselling.

• The seat allotment process is done based on the following factors: rank secured in NEET, choices filled by candidates, seats available and reservation policy.

For postgraduate admissions, the university conducts a common entrance test.
