B.A. (Hons.) Sociology

The Sociology major at the School of Liberal Arts Bennett University emphasizes critical thinking, interdisciplinary learning, and a strong foundation in sociological theories and research methods.  Sociology examines social structures, human interactions, and cultural patterns. It investigates how societies function, addressing issues such as social inequality, globalization, gender dynamics, and urbanization. The discipline equips students with research skills to study societal transformations.

The sociology program is designed to: (i) introduce core sociological theories and research methods in the first two semesters; (ii) explore areas like social stratification, culture, and globalization in the following semesters: and (iii) offer specialized courses in urban sociology, migration studies, and gender and society in the later years.

• Theory courses – Theory courses – 3-4 lectures a week depending on course credits, each lasting 55 minutes.
• Fieldwork projects – Community-based research and social impact assessments.

The curriculum is designed to offer a strong academic foundation through Major-Core courses, complemented by Major-Electives for added specialization.
