    Ph.D in Economics is the minimum and maximum period of study and research shall be three (3) years and Six (6) years respectively from the date of registration of the candidate.

    The doctoral program in Economics is designed to create a knowledge base to conceptualize and analyse economic problems with real-life applications. This program aims to produce a generation of economics scholars capable of conducting independent, original, academic, and practice-based research. Therefore, the modality of the program will be based on creating transferable skills across several fields and integrate activities that develop the ability to work with real-life problems using big datasets.

    Doctoral candidates have an opportunity to gain critical knowledge in various fields by enrolling in specialised courses, attending workshops and seminars, and doing independent studies. They can also expand their breadth in economics by taking advantage of the interdisciplinary academic space provided by the different schools at FLAME University. The program will train researchers to think systematically, access, and process big data using advanced econometrics and computational techniques, and answer questions from various subfields in economics such as development economics, health economics, macro and financial economics, international economics, behavioural economics, and experimental economics. The intensive training under the mentorship of a team of highly skilled faculty advisors would give the doctoral candidates a strong foundation for writing their dissertation and preparing for their future careers.


    Eligibility Criteria

    Applicant should have a Master’s degree in Economics or allied disciplines with at least an overall “B” grade or 55% at the Master’s level.

    Admission Details

    1. Applicants will be required to submit a Statement of Purpose, CV/Resume and a brief outline of proposed research along with the application form.
    2. Applicants found eligible will appear in a written test (PhD-FEAT) that will gauge the aptitude, subject knowledge and motivation to pursue research. This written test is the next qualifying stage of the selection process. The syllabus of the test shall consist of 50% research aptitude and 50% subject matter.
    3. Applicants who have qualified CSIR/UGC – NET/JRF may be exempted from taking the entrance test.
    4. Those who successfully meet the above requirements will be invited for an online interview.

    Please note that the University Doctoral Committee shall be the final decision-making authority on decisions related to all the above-mentioned matters.
