Batch of 2017 | Post Graduate Programme in Human Resource Management
We live in a parallel world Khel gaon. We have the best hostels and even though there is no campus. it's all managed quite well. The pedagogy is quite good. Professors from XLRI and other IIMs come down to teach us. The placements are pretty amazing too. We have won almost all the inter BSchool competitions and it's no longer a 'new' IIM for us

Batch of 2014 | PGDM
Life at IIM Ranchi is very fast pace . One always has something on their plate. ONE DAY YOU WILL FIND YOURSELF BURNING midnight oil to complete your assignments due on the next day while on other days you will spend your days in participating in various fun events organised by various clubs and committees. The seniors here are very helpful. Whenever I seek for help then someone is always there to help me. This is true not just for the seniors but also with the faculties.

It's a pleasure to have college life after work experience. It's the perfect example how one should feel at management college/B-Schools. IIM Ranchi has given me homely feeling. I feel so happy and at the same time grateful towards it. I have collected a treasure of great experiences from here. I have got better exposure to industry through various live projects and summer internship. Though right now the infrastructure is lacking, the college and students collectively have tried to overcome these challenges.

A college is a great place if you want to garner knowledge and have a good exposure. The placements are pretty decent as compared to other new IIMs and though it does not have its own campus the infrastructure has never been an issue. The faculties are also very good and one gets the hand knowledge due to several projects and assignments. The student crowd is also pretty good and diversity is maintained. One also gets the opportunity to work in teams which help later in the organization.

Even though it is a comparatively new institute but it is, in my opinion, the best college in Eastern India in terms of growth rate and competitiveness. There is a busy but cheerful atmosphere and there is a myriad of activities in which students can and have taken part and won accolades for the college on a national and internal level.

About College:

The Indian Institute of Management in Ranchi is one of the so-called New IIMs, having been established in 2010. It was created on the back of the Eleventh Five-Year Plan (2007-12) which decided the need for the creation of more world-class institutions to facilitate professional education. The list also includes the ones at Raipur, Rohtak, Kashipur, Udaipur and Tiruchirappalli. At present, the classes for the institute are being conducted at a temporary campus in the same city. But construction of the new 90- acre campus is underway on land allotted by the Government of Jharkhand. The hostels have already shifted to a location in Khelgaon, which is a sports village for the city. This location allows students to engage in multiple sporty and outdoor activities.

There are several courses that are conducted at the IIM- Ranchi. The flagship programme is the 2- year PGDM. There is also a specific course for those seeking to build a career in human resource management, known as PGDHRM. There are two doctoral programmes as well. One is full-time FPM, the other is for working professionals EFPM. Several executive management courses for working professionals are also conducted over here. One of them is the PGEXP. The other is with a focus on energy management known as PGPEM. A fifteen-month certificate programme for general management can also be availed by such working professionals. Multiple MDP (Management Development Programme) options also remain open.

Admissions to IIM- Ranchi as well as the other newer IIMs, is through a common process. First of all, the CAT exam is mandatory, from where students are shortlisted for a second round. Since now there are so many IIMs, a common realization emerged that it is not possible to sit for separate interviews or other stages for so many institutes. In addition, students also apply in general to other non-IIM private as well as government institutes. This gets all the more difficult for working professionals. That is why the second round for all the new as well as ‘Baby IIMs’ is done through the Common Admission Process (CAP). Students are shortlisted jointly for this entire process, after which each individual college submits its selection list depending on its own criteria. The exact rules regarding the CAP change frequently. Earlier, a rule existed where those shortlisted for the older seven IIMs (including Shillong), need not appear for the CAP. But that has been done away with now. In addition, some baby IIMs have also given calls to some who did not make the grade for the CAP. But generally, a common process eases operations and reduces student hassles in a big way.

The IIM- Ranchi has also featured highly on business school rankings, finishing 40th in the NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework). Unlike the IIMs which are even older, the IIM- Ranchi never had much of a diversity issue. This is because by the time the institute started taking its first few batches, this thinking had already emerged, so the admissions were done with this being kept in mind. Even the regional diversity is fairly high, with students recruited from all over India, and then placed at different places. This curates a strong nation-wide or even international alumni link. The CAT is mandatory like at the other IIMs, followed by an interview and usually a WAT (Written Ability Test). Overseas candidates need to go via the GMAT route.

Campus life here is a lot more than merely academics. There are societies dedicated towards facilitating co-curricular interests. There is a leadership talk series known as Aarohan held periodically. A series of guest lectures by industry experts are held known as Colloquium. HR Conclave as the name suggests deals specifically with the needs of the PGDHRM students. The annual business conclave here is termed as the Radix. In addition to these, there are also clubs which take care of the extracurricular needs. High Note is there for music, Foggy Feet for dance, Frayscale looks into art and photography, while Dramebaaz as the name suggests, is the dramatics society. There is also Digitalytics which is into business analytics, while Equilibrium looks after economics. A society exists with the sole mandate to help students relax from the constant stress, known as SOUL.

The institute may not be too old, but it has already created a vibrant alumni network. The alumni committee is in constant touch with the past students, improving the connect on a constant basis. This has helped generate top-notch placements for the present batches. Some of the recent years’ recruiters include- Accenture, Berger Paints, CADILA, IBM, Samsung, Maruti Suzuki, Bosch, RBL Bank, ICICI Bank, Federal Bank, YES Bank, JP Morgan Chase, Deloitte, Bharat Petroleum, ONGC, Bharat Forge, Google, GMR, Cognizant, Emami, the Muthoot Group, ONGC, Vedanta, Tata Steel, hindware, Star Cement, Wipro and Shapoorji Pallonji.
