Course Overview

MBA - Business Analytics (MBA-BA) at IIM Ranchi is a two-year full-time residential programme and aims to prepare students for careers that apply and manage modern data science to solve critical business challenges. With the growing importance of business analytics, the demand for talents to analyse and demystify data is in increasing demand. The program has been designed to impart in-depth knowledge on modelling the business problems and on using the tools and techniques of analytics to make the participants capable of playing a leading role in this evolving field. It is structured to enable the participants to define business and other real-life problems, use analytical tools and techniques to identify patterns, gain insights, develop business strategies and make sound management decisions. The program is expected to provide an overview of various management disciplines and an in-depth understanding of Data Science.

MBA - BA programme is divided into six terms; three terms in the first year and three terms in the second year. The first-year coursework of MBA - BA will have several courses in common with the regular MBA program in Term - I, II & III. MBA - BA students will also be doing certain core courses in analytics in Term - I, II & III that are not part of regular MBA.

All the participants will undergo Summer Internship Project (equivalent to 6-credit/ 8 weeks) in analytics applications in industry with live project in the summer (April and May) after Term-III. During the summer internship, the participants will get an opportunity to build a practical perspective of whatever they learn in the classroom.

The second year comprises of Elective courses, spread over three terms (IV to VI). The elective courses help the participants to develop deeper understanding of Business Analytics area. Students are allowed to choose the courses of their interest in the second year. Students who want to acquire deeper understanding of a topic or explore deeply a narrow topic can also pursue a Course of Independent Study (CIS) under the guidance of a faculty member.

Currently, the total credits requirement across two year of MBA - BA programme is minimum of 109.5 credits and a maximum of 118.5 credits (including the Summer Internship Project), one credit being equivalent to 10 classroom hours.

Eligibility Criteria

In order to be eligible to apply for MBA (Business Analytics) program, a candidate must possess:

A full-time undergraduate/post-graduate degree with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent CGPA in -

Engineering/technology/architecture

OR -

Science with mathematics/statistics/operations research/computer science/physics/engineering physics/information technology/information science

OR -

Computer application

Admission Details

Appear for CAT examination.
Candidates will be shortlisted for Personal Appearance(PA) process.
The PA process will be conducted. It will consist of Written Ability Test(WAT) and Personal Interview(PI). This is common for all IIMs participating in Common Admission Process(CAP).
Preparing the merit list based on Cat score, WAP and PI score and Profile score as well.
