Many people don't know about IIT Jammu because it is new and some also have misconceptions about Jammu too but Jammu is a quite peaceful city with great peoples. Here in college we have small computer, mechanical and physical lab. Library is also not so big because we are in temporary campus currently. But it is told that we will be shifted in our transit campus which is being build on land of permanent campus, at the starting of our 3rd semester. other facilities are also good and enough for development of students.

It is quite affordable because of the various loan and scholarship schemes by the Indian Government. Good spirit of competition among mates. Here faculty is from IIT Delhi, quite satisfactory. College provides regular session with entrepreneurial motivation. Internet provided is very fast (100Mbps easily) and makes browsing very enjoyable.

College have only one running batch this year because this is new college so we can interact with every student which is a lot of fun but because of this limited number of students sometimes we have to face some problems also like in any cultural activity only we work on place of management and students and members of clubs. others things are fine like library, labs and sports. we have some labs but not all this year but we will work in them at IIT Delhi.

Here at IIT Jammu as this is it's first year so it wasn't expected for me to see such creative students. here students have a good student welfare structure which is designed by themselves. Teachers are directly from IIT Delhi. only thing i don't like is the 75% attendance rule but still it is for our profit. college don't have many books in library but all the books related to course. we have given a good internet connection in whole campus without any data limits.

About College:

The Indian Institute of Technology in Jammu was established in the year 2016. During the 11th five- year plan it had been decided to expand the number of the premier educational institutes like the IITs, so few were added. By the time of the 12th five- year plan, it was decided to further expand as still some states and regions were underserviced. That is why four more IITs were started. These are popularly known as the ‘Baby IITs’. They are in- Jammu, Palakkad, Tirupati and Dharwad. These new IITs have over a period of time gained in reputation and are fast closing the gap on the top incumbents. Lakhs of students from all over the country enrol themselves over countless hours of coaching classes in order to secure a seat at the IITs.

Securing a seat at the IITs is done through a rigorous selection process involving the JEE (Joint Entrance Examination). This is the largest entrance exam in the country in terms of numbers and possibly amongst the largest in the world. This paper is given by more than 12 lakh people annually. It is a 3- hour exam worth 90 marks constituting 3 segments with equal weightage. Those segments are- Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics. The best of the performers, totaling roughly 2 lakhs of them are further shortlisted for the JEE Advanced which is for selection to the IITs. The JEE Advanced is conducted over 2 rounds on the same day. The morning paper which runs from 9 am till noon is followed by a break and then another 3 hour one. The pattern however is not so well understood as the marks pattern is not clearly defined. It keeps changing annually.

Starting in the first year, a temporary campus was set up in one of the existing colleges in Jammu. By 2017, a 25- acre transit campus was readied which is near the permanent campus. The permanent campus will cover 159 acres of land within the state of Jammu and Kashmir itself. IIT- Delhi is acting as the mentor to IIT- Jammu. The institute at present caters to BTech courses at the undergrad level. BTech can here be pursued from any of the five engineering fields – Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical and Computer Science & Engineering. It also provides the option of doctorate programmes. No master’s level or integrated programmes are running here at present.

The IIT- Jammu has been extremely proactive in developing computing and internet facilities within the campus. That is why the C3I as the Central Computing and Communication Infrastructure is popularly known as, was developed. The library is also extremely well- stocked. In addition to the physical books in place, the library is connected to several digital libraries as well. This gives the students, faulty and researchers access to enormous quantities of intellectual inputs. In the ongoing digital age, being ignorant of online learning modules is not any option. This is why students at the IIT- Jammu are constantly encouraged to take up certain lectures online. They are required to make use of the facilities afforded by the NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning). Another such portal is Swayam, developed by the Government of India.

The students at IIT- Jammu have also been involved several annual events conducted within their campus. They have proactively participated in the Yoga Day and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan activities held on campus. The faculty have also received FDPs (Faculty Development Programmes) on topics such as energy sustainability, brand building for the institute and value creation. There has also been an Indian Army- led event known as Sadbhavana.
