M.Sc Physics at IAR Gandhinagar Offline Course

MSc Physics is one of the oldest academic programs which prepares students for a career in research, teaching and for limited but attractive jobs in government and industrial sectors.

MSc Physics at IAR a 2-yeas (4 semesters) long program. First two semesters mostly cover the core subjects. Next two semesters offer a range of electives like Plasma Physics, General Relativity, Experimental Techniques, Advanced Condensed Matter Physics, Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Biophysics, and two research projects, to give students a flavour of current research topics and trends.

The course contents are designed in a way that it not only prepares students to appear for various entrance tests at the national/international level (NET/GATE/JEST/GRE, etc.,) but also to qualify for research fellowships in esteemed research institutes across the country and abroad. Considering the fact that laboratory work is an integral part of any successful masters’ program, all four semesters have a mandatory General physical Laboratory. The other important focus is on developing the computational skills in the students which have stupendous importance in today’s job-market and research-pursuit. In this course spanning over two semesters, a student is taught Linux, programming languages C and Python, basic plotting techniques like Gnuplot, latex and numerical methods. Further, the special laboratory and advanced computational techniques courses are offered, aligned with the elective chosen by the students in the third and fourth semesters. Public lectures, scientific tours, conferences and hands-on workshops are also an integral part of the program.
