Saurashtra University was established in 1967, by the Saurashtra University Act was passed by the Legislative Assembly of Gujarat. The University offers 29 postgraduate courses in humanities, commerce, science, social sciences, law, journalism, library and information science, pharmacy and physical education. The University is spread over 363 acres of land. The jurisdiction of the University includes Amreli, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Surendranagar, and Morbi districts. The University is affiliated to 238 colleges.

Saurashtra University offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in humanities, commerce, science, social sciences, law, journalism, library and information science, pharmacy and physical education thought it’s campus departments and affiliated colleges. Admissions to B.Tech, B.Pharm, B.Sc Integrated, and B.Voc are based on qualifying marks in the entrance exam conducted by the university. Admission to B.Lib.I.Sc., B.Ed. and other undergraduate courses admission in humanities, sciences and commerce admissions are done on the basis of merit in the qualifying examination. Admissions to undergraduate courses in engineering and technology, medicine and architecture are through the national level examination. Admissions to postgraduate courses in M.Sc., M.P.Ed., LLM, M.Phil, and PhD are done on qualifying marks in the entrance exam. Admissions to MA, MSW, M.Com. and M.Lib.I.Sc. are done on the merit basis. M.Pharm., MPT, MCA.MBA. MS and MD admissions are done on the basis of national or state level entrance examinations.
