The Liberal Arts course offered at IDSS is designed keeping in mind the broad demographic, educational and psychographic profile of 12th pass students.It offers various inputs to improve the writing, presentation, performance and analytical skills of the students. The course also incorporates various subjects and skills required for the digital age. Being on the University campus, the course enjoys the company of more than 50 Departments and Centres conducting courses and research in a huge variety of subjects. The opportunity to interact with the faculty and students of these Departments on daily basis is a great advantage for the liberal arts.

Spread over 3 years i.e. Credit Based six semesters, the Program offers an exciting combination of diverse subjects.
Total 120 credits spread over 6 semesters.
Total of 120 credits spread over six semesters. Each semester is for 20 credits.
Papers are for 3, 2 or 1 credit. One credit means 15 hours of teaching and 25 marks.
Each taught paper will have equal marks for semester end exam and internal assessment.
An eclectic combination of Core, Major, Minor, Elective, Skill-based papers along with opportunities for experiential learning and projects.
Mandatory Core papers focusing on the fundamentals from a range of subject areas.
Detailed, in-depth study of One Major Subject.

Eligibility Criteria

The course admits 40 students per batch. Students who have passed or appeared for their Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC/Std. 12) or an equivalent to 10+2 education examination from any stream (i.e. science, commerce, arts etc.) from any statutory board of education in India are eligible to apply for admission to the course. The Liberal Arts program looks for students who are curious, analytical and eager to explore beyond the boundaries of specific disciplines.

Admission of foreign students is channelized through the International Students Center of SPPU. International students should first apply to the Center (link).

The admission of the students is governed by the relevant regulations regarding reservation and quotas as mandated by the Government of Maharashtra.

Admission Details

The admission for the course is based on an Online Entrance Examination (OEE) based on multiple choice questions. The exam comprises two sections. The first section of 20 marks is based on general aptitude whereas the second section of 80 marks is based on questions drawn in from various subjects from Science and technology, humanities, commerce & management and interdisciplinary subjects till 10+2 level. The papers also includes questions on current affairs and general knowledge.
