Honest review of my engineering journey at bit sindri
College Infrastructure
Our campus is pretty huge and it has that classic old school govt college vibe. Classrooms in the electrical dept are decent but dont expect high end modern setups everywhere. Some labs have really old equipment but we still manage to get the practicals done. Wi-Fi is there in hostels but speed is hit or miss sometimes. Coming to hostels, rooms are average and you have to maintain cleanliness your own self. Mess food is just okay, nothing great but edible enough to survive. Sports ground is quite big and people play cricket and football daily.
Academics
I am pursuing B.Tech in Electrical Engineering because core sector has good opportunities. The professors are highly qualified, many have PhDs and huge experience, but their teaching style is traditional. Curriculum is mostly based on university guidelines so its a bit old fashioned and theoretical. You have to put extra efforts by yourself to learn coding or industry relevant skills if you want to be fully job ready. Exams are conducted strictly and you really need to study well to maintain a good CGPA.
Placements
Placements are actually one of the main reasons people choose BIT Sindri. For core branches like electrical, companies like Tata Steel, JSW, and Vedanta visit every year and hire a good number of students. Highest package usually goes from IT or tech roles which is around 14 to 15 LPA or sometimes even more. Average package for our branch stands somewhere around 6 or 7 LPA. Training and placement cell is quite active and they try their best to bring companies, though the process gets competitive.
Campus Life
Campus life is fun if you join some clubs or societies. There are many technical and cultural clubs which keeps you busy. The campus location is in Dhanbad so its not a big metro city, but everything you need is available nearby. The student community is very supportive and seniors are helpful during exams and placements. Its generally safe and there is a good bonding among batchmates.

Overall my experience has been a mix of ups and downs but mostly positive. The college gives you a huge alumni network which helps a lot when you step out in the industry. If you are coming here expect to do self study for a lot of things especially if you want to go in IT sector. The infrastructure definitely needs improvement from govt side but the campus culture and low fees totally compensates for it. Its a great choice.

The infrastructure is good and the college has lift service to all floors.The classrooms are air conditioned and projectors are available in each classroom. There is a canteen for snacks. There is an indoor basketball court in the quadrangle at the 3rd floor.

I am currently pursuing Masters in Animation to improve my skills and develop a good portfolio for my future jobs. The faculties are really supportive and friendly. They are ready to help us whenever we have any doubts. Students with any Bachelors Degree can join this course. The syllabus is very beginner friendly in the starting sem and it becomes more advanced towards the end.

Since I'm in my first year, only few placement offers have been given. The quality of placements increase in the second year. As of now, the highest salary package was 10-15k offered for an internship.

The campus life is fun with many clubs and student council clubs. I personally like the gaming club and the animation club which takes on different activities to host eSports events or animation skillset showcase events in the college. The students are creative and the teachers are very supportive. The location is in a very urban area where metro is available. The place can handle emergencies as it is equipped with fire safety and other safety measures.

The interior of the six floors halls are extremely beautiful. The canteen is also well maintained and attractive. In our college, there is a sports Arena and Turf. In each Classroom there are 3 to 4 Air conditioner and one digital board in board in every class room.

Placements are a bit different for PhD students in science. Many prefer post docs and go abroad while some try for industry jobs which are always not readily available for PhD students. PhDs are mostly preferred for research jobs which are quite less in India's private industry context.

The labs are up-to-date with industry-standard software, which is a major plus point for practical learning. The library portal allows you to access thousands of e-journals from your hostel room, which was incredibly useful during my final year project. However, the elevator situation in the multi-story academic blocks is terrible. There are only two lifts for a five-story building packed with hundreds of students, meaning you almost always end up taking the stairs if you want to be on time for a lecture.

The curriculum is rigidly structured, which can occasionally feel suffocating, but the practical lab sessions are where everything clicks. We aren't just memorizing textbooks; we are designing experiments and troubleshooting errors. The department also pushes undergraduate research heavily, meaning you can actually work on real-world projects if you show initiative.
Placements
As a recent graduate, I’d rate the placement cell a solid 7 out of 10. They genuinely try to get everyone a job, but sometimes it feels like a numbers game for them rather than focusing on quality roles. Startups visit the campus quite frequently now, offering dynamic roles but slightly lower stability. I chose to go with a mid-sized tech firm because the growth prospects seemed better than the standard mass recruiters. The average CTC for our batch was around 6.5 LPA. The biggest hurdle during the placement drive is the sheer volume of students. When 500 people are applying for the same 10 slots, luck plays a massive factor. My tip is to focus heavily on your communication skills. I saw incredibly smart guys get rejected just because they panicked during the Group Discussion round.

The course is highly structured and intense , particularly for dual majors . The professors are top tire , many with IIM tags or deep corporate exposure . The faculty mentorship program is quite helpful , through the constant presentation and tests can feel exhausting.

Almost everyone gets placed , and top firms like Deloitte or ICICI come to recruit . The challenges is the huge batch size , which spike internal competition . While the top packages cross 18LPA , the majority of the students land standard packages around 7-9 LPA.

Life here is never boring. The annual fest "kolosseum" and various business competitions keep the energy high. There are active student - run clubs for every interest . The only real downside is the strict hostel curfew , which cuts down on late - night group work.
