Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science Kolkata is an autonomous institute under Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, established by the Governing Council. IACS Kolkata is a A Deemed to be University under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956. Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science offers programmes at the postgraduate level with various specialisations.

IACS Kolkata offers 13 specialisations of the MSc programme, including MSc PhD Recombinant DNA Technology, MSc PhD Functional Materials in Biology, MSc PhD Biotransformation in Organic Chemistry, MSc PhD Chemistry of Natural Products, MSc PhD Cell and Developmental Biology and more. Admission into these programmes is given based on the merit of the last qualifying examination, and the final selection will be based on the JAM (BT)/ JAM (CY) score and interview.
