DM Child and Adolescent Psychiatry is a Full-Time 3-Years Course and it is offered by the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences Bangalore.
The DM and PDF course is targeted to develop the candidate’s clinical acumen and skills so as to enable them to function as experts in the field of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (CAP) including intellectual disability in a variety of settings. This training will equip the trainee with the skills in patient care, to pursue productive teaching and research careers in the field of child and adolescent psychiatry. The candidate will have in-depth knowledge of the diagnosis and management of psychiatric disturbances in children and adolescents including intellectual disability. In addition, they will have good knowledge of conditions such as epilepsies, neurodevelopmental disorders, inborn errors of metabolism, common pediatric conditions and of the investigative procedures including electrophysiology and imaging. They will have a clear understanding of clinical and developmental child psychology and methods of evaluation and therapy. The candidate will at all times work towards including preventive and promotive aspects of child mental health. The socio-cultural and legal dimensions and administrative perspectives on child and adolescent mental health will be the other areas in which they will be well trained.
Selection will be purely based on merit in the ONLINE entrance test.
Candidates who have MD/MS/DNB/DPM with Psychiatry from a recognized University or from any other University recognized as equivalent thereto by NIMHANS and by the Medical Council of India may apply for the course. However, Candidates who are awaiting the results may also appear for the entrance test subject to production of proof of having passed the examination on or before the date of admission to the course.
