Tripura University is a central public university established in 1987. The university was initially established as a state university. In 2007, it was upgraded to a central university under the Tripura University Act, 2006 as enacted by the Parliament. The university is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC). With a CGPA of 2.63, NAAC has accredited the varsity with a ‘B’ grade.Currently, 46 colleges are affiliated to Tripura University Suryamaninagar.

The Tripura University has undergraduate, postgraduate, PGD and integrated courses. To gain admission in courses offered by Tripura University, candidates need to appear for Tripura University Entrance Test (TUET) conducted by the university. CAT/MAT/XAT/CMAT scores are also accepted by the varsity for admission in the Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) programme. The topper students of 10+2 of Tripura Board of Secondary Examination and graduates of Tripura University respectively are exempted from the TUET.

Tripura University has collaborated with various institutions and industries to provide quality education to the students. A well-established placement assistance cell is there to provide placements to students. Tripura University Scholarship

The varsity provides a wide range of scholarships to its students. It is mandatory for candidates to fulfil the eligibility criteria set by the university to avail Tripura University scholarships. The students can apply for various state and national scholarships as well. A few of the Tripura University scholarships (state and national level) that students can apply for are Beedi Workers Scholarship, North East Council Scholarship and Post Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child.
