Solar Energy: Photovoltaic (PV) Technologies

Spread across 11 weeks, the Solar Energy: Photovoltaic (PV) Technologies course focuses on the production of solar cells. The curriculum includes discussion over the future of solar technologies such as CIGS, CdTe, and Perovskites. This online course is a part of a MicroMasters program “Solar Energy Engineering,” which students can additionally pursue.

Three assessment exams are laced in between the Solar Energy: Photovoltaic (PV) Technologies certification syllabus, which is split into five parts. Students will study topics touching on crystalline silicon, solar cell characterization, and thin-film processing. It is an advanced engineering course that follows a course schedule led by instructors.

Taught by the faculties of the Delft University of Technology, this Solar Energy: Photovoltaic (PV) Technologies course invites both audit and verified learners. Audit learners can access the course material, discussion forums, and a limited number of free exercises for a limited period. Whereas, with the verified track, learners can access all the course study tools by paying the necessary fee.

Solar Energy: Photovoltaic (PV) Systems

With the Solar Energy: Photovoltaic (PV) Systems program, candidates will learn about the process of turning solar cells into full modules and applying these modules to PV systems. The curriculum covers the design of different photovoltaic system types, such as residential-scale systems (on-grid and off-grid) and utility-scale solar farms.

The Solar Energy: Photovoltaic (PV) Systems certification course will help candidates learn about the functions and operations of different components involved in PV systems, including batteries, inverters, DC-DC converters, and how they interact with the grid and the modules. They will then know how to work with these components and incorporate them while designing, planning, and installing real PV systems.

After completing the Solar Energy: Photovoltaic (PV) Systems training, candidates will better understand a PV system’s performance under different solar energy applications. They will also know how to estimate the energy yield for the system that their client is looking to install.

This course is a part of TU Delft’s Solar Energy Engineering MicroMasters program, which covers all relevant aspects of photovoltaic energy conversion, systems, and technologies. There are two modes for the learners to join the programme, namely, verified and free audit. In the former mode, the learner will have a certificate of completion and unlimited access to the programme. In the latter mode, the candidates will get access only for a limited period.

Groundscape Architecture Design Lab, re-thinking cities underground

As an emerging field of research, the programme on Groundscape Architecture Design Lab, re-thinking cities underground by Edx investigates and explores the possibilities that lie beneath cities' surface. This 11- week intermediate course is supported by architectural studies and provides candidates with a verified certificate on successful completion.

The concept of Groundscape in Edx's course on Groundscape Architecture Design Lab, re-thinking cities underground offers aesthetic, durable, and responsible responses to urban challenges through underground solutions. Learners can also participate in an Underground Design Studio – a design-oriented studio, where they acquire skills and conceptualize their underground project.

Moreover, the medium of instruction is English, and learners can also opt for video transcripts in the same language. A self-paced course, the Groundscape Architecture Design Lab, re-thinking cities underground course by Edx is taught by the faculty of Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL).

Mr. Dominique Perrault, Mr. Juan Fernandez-Andrino, Mr. Ignacio Ferrer Rizzo, and Mr. Richard Nguyen are the course instructors.

Digital Design

The Digital Design certification finds applications in a wide variety of fields such as mobile phones, vehicles, medicine, and computers. This industry has grown several folds over the last 2 decades, resulting in significant blue-collar careers around the world. Moreover, computing systems constitute the main elements of computer engineering.

The Digital Design training delivered at edX focuses on elementary-level information relating to the building blocks of digital systems. Electronic circuits and logic gates will be covered in detail from a practical standpoint. The objective will be to combine simple blocks into a more robust structure. As a result, advanced digital structures will be possible.

You will find the course pedagogy fun, which would lead to better concept reception. It lends immense value to being in the designer’s seat of a project. Another inherent advantage of electronics is that the components are more economical than other fields of engineering such as Mechanical and Electrical. The candidates who enrol in any track of the course will be able to progress at their speed. Both tracks - audit and verified may be opted for by the candidates for finishing the course. If the candidates want to learn for free without a certificate they may choose the audit track which is open for a limited period of access. For unlimited paid access the students should switch over to the verified track.
