What is Advertising

Advertising was introduced as a subject when advertising was considered a serious and popular domain in the marketing area of career. The Advertising course is an in-depth study of concepts, designing, marketing, communication, strategies, planning of advertising marketing.

It is a means of communication with an audience about the different products and services you offer, and it works on conveying a message to people by persuading them to buy or try their products. Eligibility Criteria (UG & PG) of Advertising

For undergraduate degree

  • Candidates must have scored aggregate marks of a minimum of 50% in class 12.

  • An individual must have completed the previous course in any subject.

  • Entrance exams or merit base for admission process in the college as per their need.

For postgraduate degree

  • Candidates must have secured at least 55% or 60% in the previous degree course.

  • Must have completed a bachelor's degree in mass media communications or advertising, or any related subject course.

  • The admission process is mostly merit-based; however, some universities may require entrance exams. 

Entrance Exams for Advertising Course

Most universities do not require entrance exams for the advertising course, but several universities conduct entrance exams for admissions into advertising courses in their institutions.

XAT - Xavier's Aptitude Test, also known as XAT is a national level entrance exam organised by XLRI, Jamshedpur once every year for MBA/PGDM programs of more than 100 institutes. It is conducted through an online entrance exam and is 3 hours long. It is conducted across 71 cities in India.

IIMC Entrance Exam - IIMC (Indian Institute of Mass Communication) entrance exam is a university level entrance test for admissions to various post graduate mass communication courses across 6 IIMC campuses. It is conducted every year, and it is an offline mode of the exam with 120 minutes exam duration.

XIC OET - Xavier's Institute of Communications Online Entrance Test is an entrance exam conducted by Xavier's Institute of Communications, Mumbai for admission into various postgraduate courses offered in the field of mass media from the institution.

Scope of Advertising in India and Abroad

The study of advertising has a wide scope in marketing fields of work in India as well as abroad. If an individual has skills in designing, market strategy in advertising, high pitch knowledge in advertising, they can work in many good and re-known companies in India as well as abroad in the department of advertising and marketing.

As per required UGC NET 2020 education qualification, candidates possessing a post-graduate degree with 55% marks are eligible to apply for the exam. Candidates should not be more than 30 years in age for JRF but there is no age restriction to apply for the post of Assistant Professor.

Eligibility criteria for UGC net exam is

  • Master’s Degree holders with a minimum of 55% marks (50% for reserved candidates) can register for the exam.
  • Students in the final year of the master’s program or waiting for its result can also apply for the exam.
  • Ph.D. degree holders who completed their master’s degree before September 19, 1991 will be given a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks.
  • Applicants must not be more than 30 years of age as on June 1, 2020 to apply for Junior Research Fellowship.
