Psychology is a scientific study of mental processes and behaviour, and the relation between them.

Though the focus is on individual person, comparative studies with organisms, and across cultures enrich knowledge on how and why people behave in ways that they do. The Major in Psychology through its research oriented curriculum enables students to learn (i) how people perceive, learn, and think; (ii) how behaviour is motivated; (iii) how individuals differ from one another; (iv) how personality develops across the life span; (v) how interpersonal variables impact relationships in groups, organizations, and society; and (vi) how pathological behaviour develops and is modified.

Courses introduce students to the theories and empirical studies of behaviour. Laboratory experiments are performed to verify known psychological facts and principles, and to investigate new ones. Psychological testing makes students skilled in assessing individual differences. Consequently, students acquire the attitude, knowledge, and skills relevant to careers in business, counselling, education, law, medicine, public policy, and technology.
