Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) programme in Journalism and Mass Communication shall be for a minimum duration of three years, including course work and a maximum of six years. Extension beyond the above limits will be governed by the relevant clauses as stipulated in the Statute/Ordinance of the individual Institution concerned and offered by Aliah University, Kolkata.
The University will admit applicant through an admission test conducted by the concerned Department and if qualified, he/she has to appear for an interview to be conducted by the concerned Departmental Research Committee (DRC). The written test shall be qualifying in nature. The written test is waived for candidates who have qualified in NET, GATE, SET, SLET, UGC/CSIR (JRF). Such candidates are to appear for interview only. Merit list is prepared based on the marks obtained in overall academic performance and the marks obtained in the interview.
Candidates possessing Masters Degree in the area of Humanities, Social Science and Religious Studies from a recognized University/ Institute with minimum 55% marks (or a CGPA of 6.0 in 10 point scale) in the qualifying examinations shall be considered for admission in the departments as per their Specialization only.
