72 MonthsDoctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program in Mathematics and Statistics shall be for a minimum duration of three years, including course work and a maximum of six years. Extension beyond the above limits will be governed by the relevant clauses as stipulated in the Statute/Ordinance of the individual Institution concerned and offered by Aliah University, Kolkata.
Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates seeking admission to the Ph.D. programs shall have a Master's degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent CGPA (6.25 in 10 point scale wherever the grading system is followed), or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.
- A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to differently-abled candidates as per the decision of the UGC from time to time. The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever the grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the category mentioned above are permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grace mark procedures.
Admission Details
The University will admit applicant through an admission test conducted by the concerned Department and if qualified, he/she has to appear for an interview to be conducted by the concerned Departmental Research Committee (DRC). The written test shall be qualifying in nature. The written test is waived for candidates who have qualified in NET, GATE, SET, SLET, UGC/CSIR (JRF). Such candidates are to appear for interviews only. A merit list is prepared based on the marks obtained in overall academic performance and the marks obtained in the interview.
