CEPT University offers financial assistance in form of partial/full tuition fee waiver to the deserving candidates, decided through a due procedure, and based on need-cum-performance-based criteria. Fees for PhD and MPhil Programs is Rs 3,80,000 per year for the batch of 2019. All the admitted students will be offered partial tuition fee waiver (50%), hence, the fees payable will be Rs 1,90,000 per year.
The PhD students, on successful completion of coursework and advancing to research work phase, will be given 75% waiver and they shall pay Rs 95,000 per year till the submission of dissertation.
The PhD and MPhil students are also offered a scholarship (INR 38,000 per month-subject to change), for the first six months of the mandatory coursework against teaching assignments (15-20 hrs/week) as allocated by the respective Faculty. Continuation of scholarship is subject to satisfactory performance which will be evaluated periodically, and availing fresh teaching assignments (15-20 hrs/week) every following semester.
Additionally, the applicants seeking admission in the PhD program can also apply for President's Scholarship, amounting to full tuition fee waiver. The normal duration of the doctoral program is four years. The first two years of the program are devoted to coursework, requiring full-time residency. During residency, students will engage in teaching and/or Faculty research for which they will receive stipend. Doctoral students are expected to undertake courses worth 44 credits over these two years. After successful completion of the coursework, there will be qualifying exams to test competency in the field/discipline and in the area of specialisation. After successfully clearing the qualifying exams, students will be awarded the status of ‘PhD Candidate’. Thereafter, candidates would prepare and defend a dissertation proposal within a maximum period of one semester. During the candidacy period, candidates will work in consultation with their dissertation advisor(s) and a dissertation advisory committee.
- A professional masters (or equivalent) degree in fields related to Planning (Infrastructure, Housing, Transport or any other planning programs) or in Urban Design or Urban Management is required.
- Masters Degree (or equivalent) in Geography/ Sociology/ Economics/ GIS/Geomatics/ Environmental Science /Climate Studies/ Social Work/ Development Studies/ Policy Studies/ Political Science, is also acceptable. In this case, a student will be required to do a one-year bridge course.
