Ph.D. Programme in Physics at CHRIST (Deemed to be University) was introduced in the year 2008, in the disciplines of Materials Science, Nuclear Physics and Astrophysics, is centrally administered by Centre for Research, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru. In fulfilling the degree requirements, a research scholar is expected to undergo course work of six months duration as prescribed by UGC, attend and present research papers in seminars/symposia/conferences at national and international level. During the period of Ph.D., a scholar is expected to publish a few research articles in reputed journals in the chosen area of research.

The minimum eligibility of candidates intending to pursue a doctoral programme is a pass with a minimum of 55% in a postgraduate programme and MPhil. The students who have cleared UGC-CSIR NET/JRF examination or SLET/GATE examinations and also the students who have worked as JRF for one year in the externally funded major research projects may be exempted from MPhil requirement. In the case of internally funded major research projects (MRP), the students may be exempted from MPhil requirement after two years of research experience. Under certain conditions such as the presence of high impact publications students with a high academic performance at the postgraduate level, may be admitted directly to a Ph.D. programme.
Admissions are done on the basis of Christ University Entrance Test, Skill Assessment, Micro Presentation, Academic Performance(Assessment of past performance in Degree and MPhil and the research proposal during the Personal Interview), and Personal interview.
